Landline Phones

I had to renew my broadband / TV deal today & the packages all involved a landline. Asked them to take it off and all the deals ended up more expensive Angry I don’t even own a telephone to plug into the socket.

Do many people still use them where you have a landline still available?

We took the package but never plugged a phone in.

We have a landline because I have no mobile. The children love using it.

We have one.
Useful for people who want to speak to "someone who is in the house" rather than any specific family member.
No point in trying to 'take it off the package' as it doesn't save money.
I use my mobile to phone people, but I can think of 4 people who will use our landline number for regular calls, as they are happy to speak to whichever person in the house answers.

Is also useful to call in a fault with TV or broadband - free from the landline
Is also useful when you are on your own in the house and can't find your mobile Grin

We don't have mobile signal at home so have to have a landline. I use it loads for work - I divert my work phone to it when I log on. I do have a work mobile but its useless at home and as I wfh f/t its bit pointless.

I have one which only ever rings if its school. I really only have it because it's a vintage wind round one and looks beautiful and the kids can't operate it Grin

Yep, not used much but was ts godsend on New Year's Eve when I couldn't get through to the Chinese take away because the mobile network was busy.

I had to dig the phone out of a cupboard, plug it in, wait for it to connect and charge. The take away itself was engaged but the landline offers call back which the mobile doesn't. So it was really useful. I pay annually for it so I get a 20% discount on the phone price, no call package and my broadband is £3pm.

I would always have one, it could be your only phone in the event if a power cut or the only one you can find in a fire.

Firefliess · 11/01/2021 22:53

We have one. The main time I use it is to call my mobile to find where in the house I've left it lying around..... Our mothers both call on it as only have PAYG mobiles. Noone else though. The kids won't call it, and won't pick it up either Angry

We have one. DS is now 16. When he was 4 he recorded the message for the landline answering machine. His grandmas would be very upset if I got rid of it.

I have a system. The landline (in my case is a VOIP line) number is the one that I give out for credit cards, government forms, the school robocalls, loyalty cards etc. My mobile only gets given to people I really want to speak to. The landline gets all the robocalls and never gets answered. And for the occasional important call that slips through, I get an email transcription of every landline voicemail. I almost never get spam/robocalls on my mobile!!!!

An added benefit is that it's a VOIP line that can receive texts, so I use it for my authentication texts (when required) which I can still receive when traveling.
