Tell me about the loveliest person you know!

And before anyone jumps on me, yes I know the word "lovely" is overused!

I'll start by talking about my friend. I've only known her a few years but we just seemed to click (we often joke that we're turning into each other, because we tend to have the same thoughts at the same time). She'd genuinely do anything for anyone and she is always, ALWAYS smiling.

So come on, MNers, tell me about that person who always lifts your heart!

NB: not a journalist, just someone seeking positivity, because God knows we need it!!

Thank you for the flowers.

Flowers to all who've lost someone special.

My best friend. Like another posted said, at her funeral all of her best friends shared our fortune at having her in our lives.

Not a day goes by that I don't find something I want to tell her. We'd planned to retire together, and now the future is so much bleaker. To make it worse, her dh met someone who is a horrible cow. So we've lost him from our lives as well. Cancer is a fucking bitch.

My mum is kind, witty, selfless, smart, forgiving and just a very lovely person. She sees whats best in people. She deals with adversity without complaining and without bitterness. Has a very particular sense of humour. She'll always make people feel happy and calm.

My partner is sweet, kind, fair, dependable and easy to be with. Everybody likes her and she is just the most warm and special woman i've met.

My neighbour, she walks my two dogs for me on the 2 days I work. She checks my high school age son has locked the door on his way out on my working days ( has a habit of just walking out if the house and not locking it)
She leaves me Tupperware dishes of delicious food in my fridge after she’s drops the dogs off.
She is coming to sit in my conservatory today so she can supervise my daughter in next room doing her zoom lessons and make sure she is ok (aged 10) whilst I take son to orthodontist as only one person can go in.
She won’t take any money off me for walking the dogs, she is so kind and generous and I feel guilty as I can’t return the favours she does, but she insists it’s fine and likes to help me.

@Geppili

She was my best friend. A GP, mother is of two beautiful boys. She died five years ago from cancer. I will miss her kindness, tolerance and sense of humour til I die myself.
That's very sad. There was a GP on mumsnet a few years ago who sadly died from cancer.

It's a few months since I was bereaved and it's been hard. We had no funeral, no memorial service and no ash scattering and processing it all is difficult.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 12/01/2021 07:38

My bestie. She's got the biggest heart ❤️ , always has my back and is a bloody good laugh. Really miss not being able to see her face to face atm.

apalledandshocked · 12/01/2021 07:59

I found it really hard to answer this because I realised there are several really lovely people I know and I cant choose :( That makes me incredibly lucky I know. If I had to whittle it down to 3:

  1. A friend I made in Uni. She sort of rescued me from a horrid situation, but aside from that she is bubbly, friendly and welcoming to everyone, but it never comes across as fake. I think because she genuinely does see the best in others. After talking to someone for 2 minutes she will be able to name at least 3 genuine things about them or their appearance she likes.
  2. Another friend who has an uncanny ability to spot vulnerability/someone on the edge emotionally and (unlike many people with that ability) always says the right thing to try to make it a little better. She never pokes her nose in too much but you know you can always tell her your problems and she will say the right thing. She can be very direct, but that is actually a positive.
  3. My old boss from work. I know people talk about female bosses being harder to work for if you are a woman yourself, and about majority female workplaces being bitchy. I have never found this to be the case - all the women I have worked for have been brilliant. This woman in particular was really really wonderful though, very good at her job and easy to work for (supportive, took opinions on board, constructive criticism, had your back) but also lovely outside of work as well.
  4. My sisters.
  5. my mum and step-mum. I was horrid at times to my step-mum growing up and I feel bad about it now because she is lovely.
apalledandshocked · 12/01/2021 07:59

Oh, and my dad. He has always had my back but is kind to others as well.

Bilgepumper · 12/01/2021 08:04

@abstractzebra

My son. Everyone loves him and he has a lovely, gentle friendly nature. He hugs people (in normal circumstances) and he does it naturally, like it's part of who he is, not like it's something he feels he should do. He works in a supermarket and I know a few of his workmates and they stop me to remind me how lovely he is. He is also funny all the time and we laugh when we are together. His girlfriend is of a very similar nature and she's lovely too. I laugh at her because even when she thinks she's being horrible about someone, it's so mild and not really horrible at all but she still gets in a flap about it!
We have the same son. ❤️

My four year old son who is just so sweet and sunny natured ❤️

Bluesername · 12/01/2021 17:26

I have a lovely friend who lives a long way away, unfortunately! She is gentle, intelligent, a good listener, honest and funny. She isn't 'in your face' or mega-paaahzitive all the time so it's easy to be 'real' with someone as authentic and genuine.

Beamur · 12/01/2021 17:34

What a nice thread.
One of my friends is a real ray of sunshine, she's had some really crappy things happen over the last few years but she's very upbeat and positive, great fun to be with and always kind and thoughtful to other people.
One of my recent friends fits into this category too, she's much younger than me but one of these wise gentle souls. She does a lot of voluntary work and has a real gift with young people especially. I think having friends like this makes you a nicer person too.

NeonSparkle · 12/01/2021 17:42

Me - I’m a bloody delight Grin
But in all seriousness my Dad, he was the most intelligent, funny man, and he would do absolutely anything for me. He unfortunately passed away when I was a teenager after over 25 years of being extremely ill with a genetic heart disorder - I’m just praying I haven’t inherited it!

BearSoFair · 12/01/2021 17:42

A friend I first met in 2013. She just makes everything seem a little brighter! Always has a kind word and no matter the situation, she just knows exactly what to say. We met by chance when she posted on a forum I also used asking about public transport to an event I was also going to, I helped her find a route, we agreed to say hello at the show and just instantly clicked, I feel like I've known her my whole life.

@neonsparkle Grin

What a heartwarming thread OP,

I feel lucky to know so many lovely people. My daughter's TA who is so sunny and gentle. She is such a gem.

ellenleaves · 13/01/2021 00:29

I have a lot of good friends and family but two stand out.

One does not have an easy time and has her own mental health issues but is ALWAYS supportive, kind and willing to offer practical help despite her own challenges. She's amazing.

The other is incredibly loyal, gets annoyed on my behalf if I moan (but is honest) and is so strong and holds things together when everyone else is falling to pieces. She has always got a smile and something nice to say but is no walkover. She has so many friends as she makes a lot of effort (even in this last year) and I know I'm lucky she's one of my closest! She also has three young children, works four days a week, volunteers every week for junior parkrun (normally) and is a home start volunteer - she amazes me.

Love this thread!

DownUdderer · 13/01/2021 05:40

I'm quite teary reading about these kind souls.

1forAll74 · 13/01/2021 06:21

My late Mum was so kind and lovely, she died 15years ago. She was 86 when she died, and had had a few short hospital stays because of some heart problems, but always bounced back again. She lived in a warden controlled flats, but she was always out and about, helping out other residents, with anything that they needed, She organised various things in the flats complex, like coffee mornings, bingo nights, went out to buy all the foodie stuff for these things,And decided that all the ladies there needed to do the lottery,so she was in charge of all the money and checking etc.

But I remember her neighbourly ways, way way back, in the 1940/50;s era. In the street where we lived then,, she was known as the person to go to, for things such as, helping a woman to give birth, she did this about 5 times. Also she actually called upon when someone had died in their home suddenly. and went round to lay the person out as was the saying then, she did this a number of times. Just doing things as such, until a doctor could be called.

She was a no nonsense, but very kindly woman, and strong and resilient all her life.. So will always see here as the lovliest person in my life.
