Healthy snacks for 6yr old

carrotcake124 · 11/01/2021 13:20

I have 3 children and as I am obviously conscious of developing a healthy relationship with food and exercise, particularly as I am overweight.

My eldest two 14 and 8, seem to eat well, love chocolates like normal children but eat healthily and don't snack too much. Seem to be a healthy weight. My youngest is constantly asking for snacks saying she's hungry. She does have a good appetite and is the only one in the family to ever asks for seconds or more. She is definitely overweight and is in size 7-8 or even 8-9 clothes

It's been hard as her normal sports like swimming and tennis have been stopped due to Covid and although we go for walks probably not as much as we would normally do.

We do make her healthy snacks where we can like apples but as I have not really had this problem with my other two I would really like some suggestions for healthy snacks that are filling, especially as she's home at the moment and snacking more

Thanks

Carrot / celery sticks

GlobeUs · 11/01/2021 13:45

Offer a glass of water first - hunger and thirst can often be confused.
Vegetable sticks with Dip
Baked Chickpeas
Celery sticks with cream cheese
Corn Tortilla Crisps and Dips
Apple and peanut butter
Rice cake and topping
Cheese and Crackers
Dried fruit
If you have a muffin tin with six holes in - just whack something different in each hole so she can graze throughout the day (also stops the requests, you can use the twelve hole cupcake ones too).
Nuts / Seeds
Trek bars etc. (the healthier ones though)
Tortilla wrap in half with fillings
Savoury muffins
Mini quiches (crusted or crustless - she can help make them)

Instant/cuppa porridge
A mug of soup
Boiled egg
Glass of milk
Mini pitta bread with houmous or taramasalata
Toast and marmite
Cooked chicken pieces with a little dip of ketchup

Thanks for the idea, especially the muffin tin.

She does surprise us with her appetite, she came home from school was hungry so had an apple, then a pack of mini cookies and sneaked a chocolate hob nob with out us knowing.

Had second helpings of dinner which was Spag bol and now has asked what can she have for pudding whilst her older sibling age 8 has not snacked on anything and not had second helpings of dinnerSmile

I keep loads of chopped veg sticks in boxes in the fridge.
My 6yo is the same. Always asking for something. I worry about sugar intake, though she's miraculously not over weight.
If I have nothing ready prepared I'm more likely to give in and get her a biscuit.

She's just (after dinner) had a snack of small cheese cubes, I think they are cathedral city, an oat cake and red grapes.

Sometimes I freeze little yoghurts and give them as a cold snack, take longer to eat so seems more fulfilling (?)
