Acupuncture for migraine?

Has anyone who suffers from migraine tried acupuncture to help treat it? How did you find it? I suffer from chronic migraine and am considering trying acupuncture for prevention. I already have sumatriptan prescribed and have tried a number of preventatives, which haven't worked completely or beyond a couple of months.

@rach2713 she told me that whatever she rubbed up and. Down my neck and back to bring it out in the lovebird things and was releasing whatever it did that she was even surprised it came up as good as it did that it was no wonder I was getting migraine as I was totally blocked up there.. not cheap but literally the best money I've ever spent. Hoping she'll do my whole back when I get back to her to see if it makes any difference

My migraine has got massively better with physio which has led me to think that cervical migraine is under diagnosed. Physio went 'but you can't move your neck!' and he was right.

I actually went to the physio for something else - this was just a happy side effect.

Am now trying out a Cephaly for the rest of my migraine, fingers crossed.

Can I ask you all a question its up to you if you want to answer..but I was wondering if any of you get a warning or a aura is what they call it as well before a headache and if do what is it and is it the same all the time...

The daith piercing worked for me. I’ve had migraines from the age on 13 onwards, they stopped as soon as I had the piercing done. Been 4 years and not had a migraine since

Do you take feverfew, it massively reduced my migraines when I used to suffer badly. Can buy them in capsule form from health food shops

I sometimes feel anxious the evening before I have a migraine. I don't get aura. I have had a small number of ocular migraines which are very weird. The first time I was extremely scared.

I'll try feverfew. What I'm finding is that I get a couple of months of hormonal migraines and be okay the rest of the time, then I'll be hit by a week or so of them. I was bad for a week before Christmas Day and I've been bad now for about 5 days. They've also been kicking in in the evenings instead of early morning.

I am wondering if they related to a neck or back issue though. In desperation last year I bought a shaped memory foam neck pillow and things changed overnight. After a while that stopped being effective so I alternate between the neck pillow and an ordinary one.

@rach2713 I get an aura out my eye.. it's like flicker.. I know then the minute I get that I've less than 15mins to take painkillers as if I wait any longer I'm screwed.. if I get the aura out my right eye I can manage it and 9 times out of 10 it clears, my head would still be fuzzy for the day but no banging pain but my left eye is a different story.. I lose my appetite a day or 2before and get an anxious butterfly jittery feeling in my stomach so I know something g is brewing so try and prevent as best I can but i can rarely contain a left sided migraine.. if I do manage to it'll keep coming back until I literally let myself get a full on one and then it's clear..

I've also noticed tho that all the pain I have it's all down my left side.. my neck is a sign that my back is going to come at me and when I get an attack of sciatica it's all my left side and leg that's affected.. waiting to see the neurologist to see if it's all related or in my imagination..

lonelyatchristmas · 12/01/2021 22:54

@wowfudge I do think your onto something there, as I said in my previous post I think that my neck pain and back pain are linked to my migraine.. all my main source of pain is down the left side of my body.. when my neck gets bad I know my back is going to go and it's always down my left side so I do think it's all linked someway..

I don't have back or neck pain though, just all the sodding migraines Sad

There interesting as when I get pain over my right eye it is worst and cant manage as I can if its over my left eye. I notice my skin burns from the inside out I can get depressed the day before my lips tingle but its never the same each time. I hate the fuzzy head as your waiting for it to start banging.

What are ocular migraine as I've never heard of them..

lonelyatchristmas · 12/01/2021 23:44

An ocular migraine is a rare condition characterized by temporary vision loss or even temporary blindness in one eye. Ocular migraines are caused by reduced blood flow or spasms of blood vessels in the retina or behind the eye.

I got one of these last year.. was in work serving a customer and all of a sudden lost all sight.. never so scared in my life.. had to get one of the lads to walk me up the stairs and sit me down as I could see nothing.. lasted a few minutes and then spent the next few days in bed vomiting.. I put it down to forgetting to take my medication for a day or 2 but don't know really what caused it..

wowfudge · 13/01/2021 07:02

For me it's like the sensation you get if you've accidentally looked straight at a bright light bulb and your eyes are trying to get back to normal. I found I couldn't focus for about 20-25 minutes. No head pain. Then it went away. I was very stressed on the occasions I had them.
