Anyone had a suspected scaphoid fracture?

I took a tumble in the snow a week ago..dog saw a squirrel and I went down with a bang, hand outstretched. Horrid wave of pain at the time but I assumed I'd just jarred it, til I went to play my guitar in the evening and it hurt..not agony just discomfort. Went to minor injuries and they splinted it for suspected scaphoid fracture..back on tuesday for review.
It hasn't swollen but the ache has got worse! I've been wearing the splint but I appear to be removing it in my sleep (I'm sleep walker too so no surprises there :/ ) which worries me that it's not healing.
Any experience or tips on how to stop my unconscious self taking the splint off?!

I had a suspected scaphoid fracture in the summer.

At first they thought just a sprain then reviewed the xray and found something, so I was called back and splinted.

The splint they gave me was uncomfortable, so I ordered a slightly different one that was more comfortable, particularly at night.

So you could try a different splint or maybe bandage over the top make it harder to remove??

PS. Mine wasn't a fracture...it was a hole!

Scaphoids take a long time to heal - ds fractured his and it took 4 months

I’ve fractured mine and it hurt like a motherfucker! Hospital strapped my hand up with my thumb sticking out at a 90 degree. It was so uncomfy I went back and they basically told me that if that was too uncomfy to just take it off and leave it to heal. It was my non-dominant hand so I was just extra careful with it for a while until it stopped hurting.

I think they review and X-ray again after 10 days to see a fracture more clearly

I’ve done mine several times through work , and now I pretty much don’t have one in my right hand - they did consider operating to get the loose bits out m but then decided it was too risky , so left it alone , with the warning it would probably get arthritic and it has .

What about running some tape over the fasteners so it’s a bit of a bugger to get off ?

Broke mine in 1997 (dating myself ). It was casted for about 4 months and was recommended for surgery which I refused. Dad took me to the consultant that dad because mum needed to work - otherwise I’d have had the surgery.

It was broken for about 3 weeks and the doctors didn’t believe it was broken because I could move it. I also did not have high levels of pain. I finally had an X-ray and it never quite healed right. They are bastard breaks. It still aches to this day and always will.

Get whatever intervention you can’t. Don’t be me. I’m a dumbass.

Thanks for the replies... I suspect it probably IS broken .I dislocated the same thumb 5 years ago but that time it went huge black and swollen, this time it looks normal but doesn't feel right. I am a guitar player so really don't want arthritis..my playing is crappy enough already and want to get back playing asap. The tape idea is a good one.. I'll parcel tape over the splint tonight!
