Where do you buy your kids clothes?

My boys are aged 7 and 8 and tall and slim. Marks and Spencer's stuff comes up short in the leg and too big around the waist, I've had a few bits from the supermarkets...where else can I try?
Help?????

Mine aren’t particularly tall, but until recently we’re very slim and even the super skinny jeans from Next were too baggy.

I like La Redoute for jeans and trousers, River Island kids jeans are great but pricey so keep an eye out for second hand ones.

Next and H&M are the fallback though.

Matalan and Sainsbury's usually. I had never thought of Zara for my tall skinny ds7 but then found some joggers in the charity shop I'm so pleased with them will definitely have a look there next time he needs some new stuff , they fit so well round the waist.

Next here, DS is 7 and needs age 10 for the length. I’ve always bought mostly next for him and now DS4 is wearing his old stuff, the quality has been mostly great.

Uniqlo has very good kids basics - adjustable waists for those skinny ones. Quality is great and price decent. Zara is good fit wise but quality lately has been dreadful. All leggings or joggers I’ve bought get holes in them after first couple of wears. Boden is amazing quality and good for tall children- priced accordingly but I always buy in the sale. Another great kids brand is Lindex - Scandinavian so good for tall children, good quality and price point

Tall very slim DS14, trousers from Next (skinny fit where possible), but always a year older than he is. Most other stuff I get from H&M, their shopping app is really good and they have an excellent loyalty scheme and are really good value. I just find their trousers huge on him.

Firebird83 · 10/01/2021 23:37

Next doesn’t wash well at all in my experience.

Bluesmartiesandpandapop · 10/01/2021 23:46

H&M, Next, F&F at Tesco, Primark (they usually have the adapters on jeans), and also Morrison's clothes range. I shop best at George at Asda or new look because I'm short and fat, whereas my kids are tall and thin (so far anyway!)

ohhhhhyes · 10/01/2021 23:48

Zara

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 10/01/2021 23:53

H&M. The adjustable waistbands are fab.

skankingpiglet · 11/01/2021 00:06

DD1 is very skinny. I find Boden, Zara, La Redoute, Verbaudet, Joules and John Lewis fit her well (plus Mintie, but they don't have a boys section). I've also had success with Gap jeans and H&M, although the quality at the latter is awful. At a push Sainsbury's is ok if she's already well into a particular size. Unsurprisingly given the brands that fit her shape, I tend to buy ahead in the sales!

I'm surprised at PPs recommending Asda, as we've had no luck there at all. Tops/jumpers have been fine, but the waistbands on the bottoms are far too big. Trousers & leggings are all 3/4 length by the time they fit her waist.

midnightstar66 · 11/01/2021 05:25

My friend has a very tall skinny boy and can only buy trousers/jeans in next. H&M stuff is a bit thin quality wise but it's cheap as chips so I guess you get what you pay for. There is a variety in price of some items though and if it costs more then it will be better. It's the only place dd can get leggings as she's tall and skinny but I can't speak for boys

rachll · 11/01/2021 19:07

Thanks everyone!

Is the Next stuff tumble dryer friendly? I have a few bits from Primark but they can't be tumble dried and it's so annoying!

I'm another one with a 7yo ds who is skinny and has legs for miles.

Next stuff has been good, got a fabulous pair of jeans from there a couple of years ago that had a contrast cuff that could be turned down when he grew, adjustable waistband and stretch. They fit him for about two years and washed beautifully

rachll · 11/01/2021 19:33

@BillywigSting sounds good- thank you!Smile

I put most stuff in the dryer, jumpers and things like that go on the radiator but jeans, joggers etc get chucked in the dryer and they’re fine.

midnightstar66 · 15/01/2021 18:28

Next stuff all tumble dryer friendly apart from the odd v delicate exception. H&M sadly not.

user686833 · 15/01/2021 18:49

Duns Sweden, Villervalla, Gap, Lindex, H&M, Asda, United Colours of Benetton, eBay, Zara, TU occasionally but their postage is high and there isn't one very local to me but I do like their stuff. Supermarkets being cheaper isn't true really, most of the above brands I get cheaper or the same price as supermarkets and Primark with their frequent discounts, and if I want to I can sell most of it on again whereas it's not worth it with the supermarket stuff. The only place I avoid because of poor quality is Primark. They are only good for fleecey pyjamas imo.

beakyboo10 · 15/01/2021 19:04

Sainsbury's or Next for super skinny jeans, this is all my slim 7 year old son will wear as he hates jogging bottoms.

I did used to get him skinny jeans from Morrisons but haven't been in a big store in ages. When the shops open you could try TK Maxx, had some lovely slim fitting grey jeans which my son wore to pieces and it turns out the brand was selling on Amazon (Name It). I tumble dry everything apart from jeans and Next items have always been fine.

Land's End, online - in the sale or with a promotional code. T-shirts etc are really good quality, wash well, good range of styles and colours (although mine are a bit older now and are not so keen on the brighter colours). Trousers have been a bit hit & miss on my skinniest DS but again there's a good range of styles with adjustable waists etc
