Need to maximise my DD’s productivity during inevitable screen time...

DD is 6, and there is currently a 3 hour window when both DH and I cannot access homelearning with her, so she is usually left with an iPad (yes I know it’s bad, yes I know it’s too much screen time, no there is no other way I can get around it. She is in the room with one of us whilst she’s on it, not totally neglected etc etc)
Does anyone know of any (preferably free) apps that I could download for her to play on during this time? Anything maths or English would be amazing. We already have Teach Your Monster to Read but I would love some more recommendations.

Thank you in advance!

My dc liked lightbot which teaches some basic coding skills.

It's not bad or too much screen time. There is literally fuck all else to do.

Thank you @Stompythedinosaur and @Mylittlepony374!

I agree @MarthaWashingtonsFeralTomcat but I know some people get sniffy about it. With 2 of us working FT it can’t be helped though!

Does it have to be active screen time? Can she not just watch TV (educational if you're really that bothered) for three hours? Mine just watch loads of Netflix if I'm working. CBBC have loads of educational stuff going on this week, and Crash Course Kids is good on YouTube for educational videos.

Apps-wise the only thing we have is Masha and The Bear which actually has a good range of puzzles and games! DSD loves DuoLingo.

Thank you, I’ll look into them! She watches Disney+, Netflix and some YouTube videos too; you’re right though, there is educational content on there too. I wouldn’t expect her to sit and do it the whole time, maybe dip in and out of them if she fancies it. I don’t know, maybe this is just a manifestation of my guilt at leaving her to her own devices instead of providing her with a 9-3 education Grin

Disney movies mostly have some moral objective, seriously let her chill with movies she's 6.
My DD is 5, she won't sit 100% with TV, but regulates herself and goes off to play after a while...

I’ll give my head a wobble, thank you Grin

Yes I would definitely just let her chill a bit as well. I know 3+ hours might sound a bit crap sometimes but honestly I think at this point we all just need to survive! My 4 year old started teaching me about boats the other day - when I asked how she knew so much about them she told me she watched Jake and the Neverland Pirates obviously!

I'm sure I spent more than 3 hours watching TV when I was younger and it was definitely just The Simpsons and WWF Grin Netflix has really good science and music stuff now that is actually very educational without being in their faces. And Disney+ has the NatGeo stuff on it as well as the classic films that everyone should watch anyway!

Oxford Owl has lots of free ebooks on their website. You can match them to your dd's reading level.

Topmarks is brilliant for finding decent educational websites. Lots of good maths games. You can get her to really develop her fluency/speed with number facts.

I def let my primary DC watch TV in lockdown - lots of great stuff of CBBC / BBC Bitesize

CBBC website has lots of educational games.
