Why do I have a wrinkly stomach

After two children? And other people lose their baby weight and their stomach looks normal? I was a size 8 before both pregnancies and my skin is stretched to buggery. The more weight I lose the worse the skin looks.

But do other women's stomachs look normal? I'm just wondering who you're comparing yourself to. I know lots of women lose their baby weight, but I'm not sure how common it is for women who've given birth twice to still have a flat smooth stomach - without surgery or photoshop! Maybe this will make you feel better!:

I have some strech marks that make my stomach look wrinkly.

Stop camparing yourself to others.

As above have said, don't compare yourself to others. My friends who have seen me in a bikini are convinced I don't have any loose skin or wrinkles on my tummy. Guess what I do, but just hide it well. No one looks exactly as they did pre children, really we all suffer from loosing something. But look at the gain.

Your skin will never be the same after having kids, your skin has been stretched a lot! IMO the more weight you lose the worse it will look as you are losing body fat - the fat plumps out the skin so to speak. My stomach goes wrinkly if i lose too much weight but the skin is smoother when im a bit plumper. You have to choose which you prefer!

Argh my tummy is awful. I was a size 10/12 pre children, was utterly enormous round my tummy both times even though from the back I still had a 'waist', honestly I looked like a weeble, and after losing my baby weight plus a bit more my stomach is stretch marked and wrinkled to hell. It looked shredded! No amount of exercise will get rid of it, the skin is just damaged beyond repair. I've also got a flap/overhang above my c-section scar which is just loose skin, barely any flab, but it'll never go away.

I've just had to learn to live with it, quite honestly. I'll never wear a bikini again, in all likelihood but never mind! I look alright with clothes on and DH has never made me feel bad about it in any way at all.

I think unless you're going to have surgery, which will leave scars anyway, there is nothing you can do, sorry. Even that wouldn't take away stretch marks I don't think as you can't just replace your tummy skin!

I've got a very wrinkly stomach. I was very overweight when I had my baby and I realised before I got pregnant that a wrinkly belly after was inevitable. But even my friends who are very slim and have never been fat had wrinkled bellies once they gave birth. I've lost nearly four stone since and I am getting to a point where I look at mine and think "this is a sign of the fact that you had a baby and then lost weight to be fit and healthy for that baby" rather than "ugh, I hate my belly".

BaggoMcoys · 10/01/2021 13:33

My stomach changed from pregnancy too, I'd say it's more saggy than wrinkly but it is a little wrinkly. I was a size 8 before pregnancy and gained 4 stone during it. When dd came out I was a size 10 pretty much right away. The fairly sudden ups and downs of my weight have left their mark. Even now a few years on and I'm slightly underweight atm, but still have the excess skin on my stomach. I don't love it but I understand why it's there. It's not something anyone else would really know about though. I imagine a lot more women have it than you think.

Garman · 10/01/2021 13:34

You've just answered your own question, you were a size 8 before pregnancy and your skin stretched to buggery, so now that the bump is gone the skin that stretched sits in wrinkles because the elasticity was stretched too far.

Garman · 10/01/2021 13:35

And the more weight you loose the more fat the skin looses, so it wrinkles more, same as someone's face when they lose weight.

Oh and I have a lot of stretch marks there now. They are more of a silvery/blue colour now that they've moved on from that bright red/purple phase, but they do make it look and feel less smooth.

I remember when the stretch marks first appeared! I'd made it to nearly the end of the pregnancy and was quite pleased I'd not got a single one.

Then about 2 weeks before I gave birth, I noticed what I at first thought was a scratch on my stomach... Then one by one more popped up, all the way around. It feels like I also got some on my bottom... and one right down below... Sort of under my pubic hair.

I was already covered in stretch marks from puberty - hips, boobs and all down the backs of my legs. That's why I'd been so pleased at first that I'd not gained any from the pregnancy, but sadly my bubble was burst!
