Looking to buy a house in these areas.

Budget £350k
3 beds minimum, would like an extra for visitors although could be 2nd reception/attic room etc
Would like rural village/ coastal- would be moving from suburban Liverpool so a bit of a change
Kids in Y8 and Y4 so good schools nearby although with present homeschooling etc high school is the best focus
Nice walks for ddog
Please recommend nice areas to look at although we have holidayed in the area we're just wanting some focusses before looking at jobs, tradesman/ office admin so just looking at a starting point really

Thank you!

Unless you'd love to live in Grimsby, Immingham or Scunthorpe.

I really like scarborough, it does have the typical problems you find in any sea town but it has a really nice harbour area and some amazing edwardian/victorian buildings. Its feels a bit Agatha Christie there in places and has some of the greatest countryside in england around it. Its a bit isolated though. I put in Hornsea because although I have a bit of a prejudice against it (being dragged to hornsea pottery/freeport for weekends) lots of people seem to like it. The flatness of Holderness freaks me out a bit.

Cleethorpes! I love it here

Also in Cleethorpes. It has its dicey moments but we have parks, woods and the beautiful beach.
Schools are ok. My dd is 13 and I've never had a problem entertaining her.
Were at the end of the motorway and train line so reasonable transport links.
Slightly more inland villages are still only 20mins from the coast.

All lovely locations with good dog walks from home. Top two in catchment for best secondary schools in Beverley.

Beverley/Cottingham are great. 15/20 mins to the coast. Lots to do for children, next to Hull

15/20 mins?! How you getting there? Flying?!

user1471565182 · 10/01/2021 18:37

Hello🙂

MonkeyPuddle · 10/01/2021 19:12

I’m from Hull, Beverley and Cottingham are not East Yorkshire coastal villages. Not by a long shot.

Louth. A lovely market town with good schools. Not too far from Lincoln for a decent size city. In the beautiful Wolds. Not too far fromGrimsby/Cleethorpes. Some wild beaches within easy reach eg Donna Nook

If you enjoy charity shops, take aways, hairdressers and Turkish barbers then I can definitely recommend Bridlington!! Apart from that we have fuck all apart from a nice beach and seafront. Although one beach (north side) is very pebbly but south side is pure sand with just a few pebbles here and there. The spa theatre is ok oh and apparently we are soon going to be getting a B&M and a Lidl and I think a KFC drive thru. Hey go us!! It's flat which is a good point and it has some lovely areas to live in but some totally shit areas too. I suppose if you're happy to travel 20-40 miles to find decent shops then Brid is fine, but to me it seems more of a place of retirement. Sad really because years ago we had lots of lovely shops but the rental fees are extortionate and most places closed down even before Covid struck.

OP said rural or coastal though

user1471565182 · 10/01/2021 19:53

I once got stuck overnight in leven. It was like Randall and Hopkirk deceased.

Binglebong · 10/01/2021 20:35

Do remember that the more rural you are the worse your broadband is likely to be. Difficult in the current climate.

EwwSprouts · 10/01/2021 21:55

wheresmyhairytoe Beverley to Hornsea is 12.8 miles & 20 mins per Google maps. Brandesburton to Hornsea is 6 miles.

Actual coastal villages are falling in the sea!

Cleethorpes is ok but adjacent to Grimsby which I really wouldn't wish on you. New Waltham is a pleasant village or head for the Wolds not the coast.

wheresmyhairytoe · 10/01/2021 22:20

@EwwSprouts PP also said cottingham is 15/20 mins, I can assure you it isn't.

Pippin2028 · 10/01/2021 23:11

There are some pretty towns in Lincolnshire but some parts are very backward with not much there. Property is cheap for a reason. I was there a few months back and was quite shocked at some of it. North Norfolk can be beautiful in the summer but again I think it's the place to go once you don't need to work anymore as jobs around the area are not so well paid. Although Norwich is a lovely city. I can't speak for Yorkshire, but really think strongly about both lincolnshire and Norfolk. Sometimes locals do not like outsiders at all and it can be hard to make friends and connections.

Bluesheep8 · 11/01/2021 06:37

PP also said cottingham is 15/20 mins, I can assure you it isn't.

It certainly isnt

EwwSprouts · 11/01/2021 08:37

I didn't say Cottingham was and agree with you on that but Beverley most definitely is and you didn't give that balance.
