If you’ve had covid 19, what helped you feel better?

Friend and family have covid, I’m looking for ideas of things that would be helpful/nice to drop on her doorstep.

I have paracetamol and ibuprofen so far.

If you ve had covid what made a difference?
Cough medicine? Vicks?

Chicken super noodles made with fresh chicken stock (which I had made a few hours before I began to feel unwell)
Day 5 after nothing prior that's all I wanted, and I could still taste it. Lost taste a day later.
Lots of fizzy water.

Night nurse. Really helped me to sleep.
And soothing cough sweets

Honestly not much, and people trying to get involved in the drama was exhausting. I'm still thanking them.

The things I most appreciated were being able to ask for what I actually needed (bread and lemonade for the kids, and a prescription for me) from people who would let me pay them back.

The thing I really wanted was someone to come and look after the kids but that wasn't an option!

I read a long time ago that hot baths helps with virus infections because it mimics a temperature. The theory is the body naturally creates a temperature because viruses struggle to replicate in hot temperatures. So you artificially create a temperature (hot bath) to give your immune system a chance to create antibodies.
I have subscribed to this theory for years not cos the theory stands up but cos it makes me feel better.

When DP was ill with probably COVID (not tested but doctor diagnosis) I pushed this theory. He hates hates baths. But he did have a bath every day for weeks and he maintains it made him feel a lot better. No idea if this helps anyone but at the very least it relaxes you.

DH and I both had it and could hardly get out of bed for over a week

We had to get extra supplies of paracetamol and ibuprofen as we went through it with all the fevers aches and pains

We really really appreciated people who made meals as our kids were fine and needed feeding but we were too ill to cook (neither of us felt much like eating either)

Also people who got us shopping

Hot water bottle for aches and
pains and tummy ache

Definitely nice bath stuff as baths helped the pains plus could not actually stand up in the shower.

I was craving fresh juice and did enjoy the Innocent ones. Also cordials as found I needed to keep hydrated what with the sweating and the diarrhoea.

Initially could not concentrate abs mega headache so just slept but later on I appreciated books/ magazines as I still felt very weak and tired but more alert.

People calling/ text/ WhatsApp checking how we were made us feel someone cared.

I was not fussed on chocolate or biscuits that usually I'd like as had no appetite and weird taste/ smell.

A bit bigger gift but I'd have loved some more PJs/ lounge wear as was going through those with the fever and sweating or if not then someone who'd put a wash on (maybe too infection risky)

We are both largely fine now 3/4 weeks on BTW but was hellish at the time and if we'd had tiny kids I just don't know how we'd have coped as both of us literally could not get up.

These are the things I ordered online when I had Covid:

A pulse oximeter
Lots of chocolate!
Instant soups for quick meals
Snack bars, snacks etc (soft things as I couldn’t eat hard/rough food after a point)
Vitamin D spray
Books

Baths were a life-saver for me. I had one every day when I was at my worst with it. The hot water seemed to ease my lungs/chest.

Trinny has had covid and did a post about it the other day, which was self indulgent and pathetic (but that's another thread about having to be on social media at all costs even when you are ill....). She recommended Better You Magnesium Flakes for bath - good for aches and pains. I bought some for DH for when he starts decorating. Reviews are good.

Melange99 · 10/01/2021 16:32

Just saw no baths, so no good but hopefully might help somebody!

iusedtohavechickens · 10/01/2021 16:40

Decongestant as the headache was very sinus related.

Sugary drinks and making myself eat even though I had no appetite or taste!

Paracetamol and ibuprofen and lemsip x

Hotcuppatea · 10/01/2021 16:48

I left Jelly Babies, Lucozade and Floradix on the door step.

Labralion · 11/01/2021 22:39

@iusedtohavechickens that's so interesting as I thought I had sinusitis at first! Did you lose smell and taste? I'm coping well and feel lucky but struggling with lack of smell I miss sniffing my kids and dog!
