What should I buy from IKEA?

Dd is 5 months so we're getting her a high chair in preparation for weaning.. p&p costs an absolute fortune, so is there anything else I should order while I'm at it? Those spice racks to use as baby bookshelves are already on my list.. anything else?

I'd suggest buying the Kalas range of bowls , plates and cutlery. We use those everyday for our son.

Also Drona fabric boxes make excellent toy boxes , they are safe and easy to replace as so cheap.

Yes, definitely the KALAS bowls. Buy loads. They're the perfect size for weaning and toddler snacks and we still use them 8 years on when we're prepping and chopping things.

I also liked the antilop high chair, it's practical and simple. It doesn't fold, but the legs come off easily. Probably a bit early for thinking about toddler tables and chairs but they do some good ones of those too.

Hi, the wooden baby toys like the magnetic blocks on the truck and shape sorter look very cute, for older babies than yours I think but are cheap Montessori toys if you’re into that to put away for a little older since you’re already paying the delivery.

Smaller Tupperware if you don’t have much to keep and freeze homemade baby food/leftovers. They do quite resilient labels too so you can name and date the foods.

The Mata baby feeding set if only for the suction bowl to help minimise mess at dinner time

Also nobody can go wrong with extra of those plastic clips for open food packaging - I’m sure our kitchen eats them!

Electric tealights - they are fab. We bought some for christmas, loved them so bought some more. They cast a nice flickering light, but their main brilliance (scuse the pun :-0) is that they are on a 6 hour timer so will come on at the same time every day for 6 hours and turn themselves off. No turning on/off or lighting of a million tealights daily (which I won't actually do!). Plus Ikea sell the batteries for £1 for 6.

Their child locks for drawers & cupboards are quite good.

I think IKEA calculate p&p according to what you buy - so adding to the order will cost you more delivery charge. Also not everything is available for home delivery. Lockdown might have changed things but the last time I did an order I could only get furniture delivered not marabou bars

I'd only use Drona with a kallax otherwise they get old very quickly.

You can't beat the Works 2 for £10 storage boxes for toys. Sooooo much sturdier.

Delivery is either a “small package” charge of £15 or a “furniture in a big truck with two people to carry it” charge of £40. So check which one the high chair comes under before deciding what to add!

And be aware of delivery dates. We had a few things delivered this week. When I checked out £40 delivery got me a date in February. £50 got me a delivery in 3 days. £50 is a lot but I ordered a few bits for a neighbour too.

No idea where you live but delivery of the highchair to me only cost £4, so might be worth checking before you bump up your order!

The high chair is only a small, lightweight box, not a 2 man lorry delivery!

I'd get a couple of the crocodile bath mats, as they do last a long one but eventually give up the ghost. Also if you were thinking way way ahead, their play kitchen for a Christmas present for 12 months' time!

Very random but I bought the Ikea black thermos teapot and the JOY of having a pot of tea that stays scalding so you can have a fresh cup about five times a day without the faff of making a new one made a huge difference to me.

We have moved a lot with small kids and Ikea has saved us. Ikea toy kitchen is fabulous with all its bits and pieces. Buy the full kalax set (plates bowls cutlery cups) as sometimes they change colour. Their bibs and aprons for kids are good. Their chalkboard, arts and craft supplies (they do a big roll of art paper ideal for small kids) are brilliant.

Their mattress and pillow covers are good.

God I could go on, they have saved my life.
