Spotify vs Amazon Music

GloGirl · 06/01/2021 22:41

So I have Amazon music and have had for a couple of years but I'm thinking of swapping over.

Is it easy to play spotify on Alexa? And across multiple devices? Eg can I be playing it on my phone and still be logged in through Alexa?

Sorry totally new to it. Tried Spotify a few years ago but really struggled to find music I liked as I am hopeless with song titles and band names! I believe that has improved since.

Spotify can be played on Alexa devices, there is a option on Spotify to click what device/all devices to play on.

RedSoloCup · 06/01/2021 22:46

Spotify is amazing

ShetlandWife · 06/01/2021 22:49

Try the free version before you decide. It just means ads every half an hour, but it will give you an idea of what's available and how it works. If you can access it via something like fire TV, so much the better, as the phone app (for the free version) isn't great.

Spotify confuses me.
My child uses it through their alexa.

Chattycatty · 06/01/2021 22:50

Spotify is fine if you pay otherwise you'll have adverts and also if you have more than one alexa you can only stream music on one device at a time

Kote · 06/01/2021 22:51

Spotify is much better than Amazon music. You can definitely use it with Alexa.

TimeToGoNuclear · 09/01/2021 12:28

I’d also be interested to hear comparisons between the Amazon, Spotify and Apple Music family accounts.

I have an Amazon music prime account which I’m quite happy with but my girls are getting to the age where they are just starting to stream their own music and my account only supports streaming to one device at a time (which means my music turns off when they turn theirs on). Plus they and are filling up my playlists with little mix and taylor swift!! 😫

Time to upgrade to a family account so they get their own playlists etc.... but which one?? 🤔

GloGirl · 09/01/2021 15:43

Sounds like my playlist @timetogonuclear

I was wondering if opening Spotify on Alexa was as hard work as getting Ocado to work? I might be tempted to skip with music so I can say Alexa play... rather than trying to audibly open an app etc

I’ve found Amazon better for classical music - Spotify kept playing it in the wrong order, which is very annoying.

Glittertwins · 09/01/2021 17:25

We now have a family Spotify account which allows us to separate it out on the Alexa speakers. Spotify has more of the music DH and I like - we couldn't find some bands & tracks on Apple and Amazon

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 09/01/2021 17:27

When we had a family Spotify account, it only allowed streaming on individual Alexas if the user had their own Spotify sub account AND amazon account. As our 3 are under 7, that wasn’t suitable and far too much of a faff so we just use amazon family as so much easier

Glittertwins · 10/01/2021 08:12

Sorry, I should qualify my post a bit better- the Alexa speakers are using Bluetooth to play Spotify. We do not have multiple Amazon accounts - that is too much of a faff!!

TimeToGoNuclear · 11/01/2021 16:51

Ive just had a look at the Amazon music family and it says all the children have to be over 13 years old.... Id like to be able to block explicit music as they are pre-teens but still want them to have access to their own account / playlists etc - can any who uses Spotify tell me if it has the same limitations?

(b) Family Unlimited Plans. A Family Unlimited Plan allows you to share Unlimited Content with up to five family members. All Family Unlimited Plan members must be 13 years of age or older, unless a higher minimum age applies to your Location

Bluntness100 · 11/01/2021 16:55

I prefer Spotify and use it through all my alexas, we have five now and set them up as group speakers, in each room, so basically I set up groups and say Alexa play x from Spotify everywhere and she bursts into life in all the rooms.

I find it easier than Amazon music, which I also have as I am a prime member, and seldom use it. I find Spotify is more intuitive and I find the songs I want easier to find,

Glittertwins · 11/01/2021 17:40

Spotify does permit explicit language to banned for children.
I put it on ours and forgot their taste in music meant they couldn't listen to Guns and Roses etc so reinstated it! They're nearly 13 and hear far worse at school now anyway

GloGirl · 11/01/2021 17:54

I use explicit content filter with alexa, i verbally turn if off when I want to listen to the good stuff Grin

I can stream Spotify on 2 Alexa’s.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 11/01/2021 18:02

I love Spotify, especially the ‘Behind the music’ thing.

I could spend hours listening to their suggestions.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 12/01/2021 08:31

With a Spotify family plan, you can't stream music to more than one device (unless it is the same) unless each child has a separate Spotify account and separate amazon account. If they don't, one starts playing peppa pig and another starts playing the frozen soundtrack and switches it off. Hours of arguments. Take it from me and confirmed by customer services community.spotify.com/t5/Premium-for-Family/FAMILY-AND-ECHO-ALEXA/td-p/4645953#:~:text=Re%3A%20FAMILY%20AND%20ECHO%20ALEXA&text=If%20you're%20interested%20in,linked%20to%20an%20Amazon%20account

Complete pain unless they are older

We just made playlists for ours and use that on amazon music so we know what they are listening to but they are small.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/01/2021 09:35

‘With a Spotify family plan, you can't stream music to more than one device (unless it is the same) unless each child has a separate Spotify account and separate amazon account.’

My daughter is 14. She doesn’t have an Amazon account. We have Spotify family. She streams to her Alexa. We all have our own account within Spotify family.

I stream to mine ( I have 2)

You can’t stream all family to one Alexa but you can stream to different ones for each person. But you don’t need an Amazon account. My daughter is on mine.

Backbee · 12/01/2021 09:39

Imo Spotify is better in every way than Amazon music. More user friendly, can be used on Alexa, more choice of music etc.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/01/2021 09:40

And what l like about Spotify is how it seamlessly connects between phones, AirPods, car, Alexa etc. It asks which device you want.
