Postgraduate funding eligibility - can anyone help?

Hi all, I've been a lurker on these threads for a while but thought I'd finally make an account!

My younger sister finished university in June. 2 years before she started that degree, she was at another university, but had a horrible time there and didn't enjoy the course so she dropped out.

She got funding from student finance for the three years for her degree and for the term at the other university before she dropped out.

She has now realised she would like to do a masters. She didn't know if she was still eligible for student finance as she's technically used funding for 4 years. She asked me as I finished my masters a few years back but embarrassingly, I have no clue.

Can anyone offer any insight? Not really seeing much online!

Don't know the answer but if you can't find it here:

www.gov.uk/funding-for-postgraduate-study

there should be somewhere to enquire.

Thanks @PoulePouletteEternellement.

I've had a look but I'm still not quite sure r.e the whole dropping out element.

Has anyone experienced anything like this, or known anyone who has? Smile

I am pretty sure she won't be, however, there are other options like Student Development Loans, internal university funding etc. Alternatively she may be able to consider a part time Masters and work as well.

Unless it's an integrated masters (which counts as an undergraduate degree), my understanding is that the funding for Masters degrees is completely separate - a second loan.

Eligibility
Whether you qualify depends on:

your course
your age
your nationality or residency status
You will not be able to get a Postgraduate Master’s Loan if:

you’re already getting payments from Student Finance England for another course that you’re studying
you’ve received a loan or grant for a master’s course before - unless you got Disabled Student Allowances or you left your course for a serious personal reason like illness or bereavement
you already have a master’s degree, or a qualification that’s equivalent or higher
you’re behind in repayments for any previous loans from the Student Loans Company
You’ll still be eligible if you have a PGCE or a postgraduate diploma or certificate.

You will not get extra money if you repeat a year of your course.

The post grad loan from student finance is completely separate from undergrad, so the undergrad loan has no impact whatsoever on eligibility for post grad provided she did not study an integrated masters and isn't behind on repayments. I have a plan 1 (degree), a plan 2 (pgce) and a post grad from a masters. The repayments for plan 1 and plan 2 are combined, but post grad loan is paid back separately.
