How much do piano lessons cost?

I'd like to get piano lessons for DD, I've seen remote learning one to one lessons (over zoom) that look good, but I've no idea how the price compares to a local teacher.

I'm wondering if I should try harder to find someone local DD could go to when lockdown stops (whenever that may be).

For DS I pay 58 per four weeks to a local teacher. For in person lessons at a music school and over zoom in covid times. We're in South Wales.

I pay £35 for an hour lesson. Its more music therapy than piano lessons but by choice of DS its all piano based in her own studio. For me is excellent value for money as DS loves it. For nearly a year its been over zoom. Its the one thing g I cannot wait to get back to being able to do above all else, even though its an hours travel each way.

I think my husband (beginner) pays £16 for 30 mins, previously £22 for 45 mins with a different teacher. North West.

Depends on the area and the level of qualifications/experience the teacher has.

I pay £13 for 30 minutes which is VERY good value for money for ds with a teacher who has a music degree and also works in schools and as a musician. However I would expect to pay more for a conservatoire trained musician with an instrumental teaching diploma rather than just a general music degree.

My son's singing teacher for example charges £15 per half hour but the teachers my daughter goes to (dd is training at conservatoire equivalent for musical theatre) charge around £20-25 per half hour

That's really useful, thank you.

Outschool teachers seem to be charging about £8 for group lessons and between £18 and £25 for a 30 minute private lessons.

I'd like to find a local teacher who does zoom but I think maybe I'll just go with the easy option to get DD started...

We pay £40 for 1 hour, SE England.

Piano teacher has offered to teach via Zoom during lockdown, but kids didn't think that worked well for them (quality of sound, time lag). We're waiting for lockdown to end before resuming.

Stompythedinosaur · 06/01/2021 11:08

We pay £12.50 for half an hour.

WildRosie · 06/01/2021 11:11

I pay £16 per half hour. Currently having lessons via Zoom but face to face in normal times. The price hasn't changed.

ShinyGreenElephant · 06/01/2021 11:15

For my 11yo we pay £60 a month for a weekly 45 min lesson, shes grade 3 (or she was before lockdown!)

Absofruitly · 06/01/2021 11:15

£15 per half hour here in Scotland. Lessons have been over Zoom since March last year. Still managed to do enough that way to allow my DS to pass his Grade 2 exam in December. I know he would love for in-person lessons to resume though.

WildRosie · 06/01/2021 11:16

I should add that my teacher has a music degree and is a primary school teacher by profession, so she actually knows how to teach, which is obviously important. Teaching music is now her full time job - piano, singing and theory. I'm very lucky to have found her, especially now she is fully subscribed.

I pay £14 for 30 minutes with a very well qualified teacher. It’s a bargain considering her experience. There were no lessons during lockdown last year but she’s now doing online lessons at the same rate during this lockdown. Face to face is the same price. Face to face is much better so I’d try to find someone local if you can.
