Pernicious anaemia - time to diagnosis and get treatment ?

DM has, DGran has, DGreat gran had pernicious anaemia .

I’ve been feeling rotten for ages . Diagnosed as depression then some sort of vague viral thing . GP did bloods end of November and rang in December saying my B12 was 216 .

They repeated those bloods last week - B12 is now 151 .

GP is saying they’ll repeat again in March, and test for intrinsic factor too .

Apparently only if after those numbers come back low too would they start treating any anaemia .

GP said start eating B12 rich diet but did say it would probably be pointless as if it’s PA I can’t absorb B12 from food at all .

At the moment I’m sleeping 13 hours a day, have poor balance (using a crutch for walking outdoors), palpitations, constant tinnitus, mouth ulcers and struggling to concentrate . I’m 29 .

GP did say she is more and more convinced it is pernicious anaemia but can’t treat yet as haven’t done full tests to confirm it . Said if I am still anaemic they’ll begin treatment/injections in April most likely .

Surely it can’t be right that I need to wait another 12 weeks? I’m absolutely shattered as it is, can’t imagine how I’ll feel April if B12 continues to drop .

Go back to them OP and put pressure on for tests now. It is a debilitating condition and can cause nerve damage and worse.
I was permanently exhausted, had vertigo and numb toes before I was diagnosed.
Don't be brushed off.
Best of luck to you Flowers
