How to celebrate 25th wedding anniversary in lockdown

Enko · 05/01/2021 16:43

Dh and I will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in early Feb.

We have for the last 10 years said the two of us will go to Iceland (the country) for a holiday. It is a country both of us have on our bucket list and one we felt would be amazing to do together. Obviously, with covid, this has now become impossible.

During October/November we discussed having his best man and usher come to ours for dinner but again Covid and the new lockdown has made this impossible.

I REALLY do NOT want to do a takeaway it's every day and not special for me.

I am a capable cook but I don't want to be spending it cooking a huge meal. It is my anniversary as well as his.

I do want to celebrate someway on the day so I have wondered if there is some sort of Gourmet Hellofresh we could have sent?

Does any of you know anything like that?

Or got similar suggestions.

I amlooking at localrestaurants to see if they are doing stuff but so far the nicer ones haven't done much & it is a Wednesday so not the ideal day :)

How about an M&S "dine in for £10" deal, and get some fabulous canapés and wine to go with it?

Enko · 05/01/2021 16:50

I don't really rate the M&S dinner for me its an easy dinner if that makes sense? I could cook much better myself (will take longer I know) Also I worked for Waitrose for many years so most of that sort of meals is a bit meh for me as I have had loads.

I have considered cook but again it doesn't feel like we are making it special.

Whereabouts are you? Loads of good restaurants doing takeaway round here.

If you have a favourite restaurant, contact them and ask if they’ll do you a special dinner and deliver it? They might well love the opportunity to make a bit of money.

@Enko TBH I totally agree with you! I only suggested it because that's what all the "normal" people (my colleagues) I know seem to do for a bit of luxury (I thought I was odd for not fancying an M&S pie for my anniversary meal) GrinGrin

Set off some fireworks. Even if you’ve not got any room outside, you can get nice bundles of indoor fireworks. We did a pretty display of ground level fireworks like Catherine wheels for my DN’s 18th birthday.
You could get a Prosecco afternoon tea harrietscafetearooms.co.uk/product/afternoon-tea-box-uk-delivery/
Create a playlist of songs which have a personal meaning and/or feature the word ‘silver’

Enko · 05/01/2021 17:32

I should have perhaps said I am a food and wine snob in the title :)

I am near T Wells in SE. the restaurant I had hoped for won't do anything they are closed (I've contacted them)

I would love afternoon tea DH would hate it (neither of us would drink prosecco I think it's vile stuff)

I will suggest the fire works and see what dh says.. He was muttering about it at NYE and how it ought to be banned so he may be a no on that..

Indoor romantic picnic on the floor, with nice blankets and throws/cushions, champagne bubble etc. high end food ordered or cooked, special deserts. Glammed up/dressed nice. Thoughtful music playlist, candles, fairy lights, flowers, special photos out or make a collage or photo book. I agree with the fireworks are nice idea. Maybe even have special friends or family taking turns to get sparklers and walk by outside waving in to you (if they live close enough and stay socially distant from each other and you)

There may even be a high definition/3D POV video of the stunning scenery in Iceland on YouTube - playing on a large screen throughout or even just a slide show.

Ours was in April - trip to NYC cancelled. Anyway, Banquist are good. Cook at home boxes by Michelin star chefs. Not cheap but we’ve had two and both been excellent. Hawksmoor also very good, but still just steak!

Lots of decent restaurants did delivery boxes during last lockdown and will probably do this time as well

Greatmusic · 05/01/2021 18:08

Watch an Icelandic film? www2.bfi.org.uk/news-opinion/news-bfi/lists/10-great-icelandic-films

Congratulations and I hope you enjoy the day however you celebrate it.

Enko · 05/01/2021 18:10

@Queribus Cook at home boxes by Michelin star chefs. This was what I was considering but do you now of any? Google is not giving me much luck

Ours was in previous lockdown. DC (late teens) cooked for us and we all dressed up and drank champagne by candlelight. As soon as lockdown lifted we booked dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant for a delayed celebration.

Here's some good cook-at-home reviews

Queribus · 05/01/2021 18:17

Banquist is the company we’ve used twice. Both very good, but be prepared to spend a long time prepping. I know Le Gavroche had a cook at home box but that sold out. Jason Atherton did one as well and I think Tom Kerridge, but not sure about delivery.

Becca di Lupo did a good one, but probably easy enough to make yourself without the kit, tbh.

Pied a Terre has a vegan feast box which looks lovely.

Nice bottle of champers?
Your favourite cocktails
Is there a song or film that reminds you of when you were dating?
Do your own Mr and. Mrs quiz?
Cook together ..
Get each other a surprise sexy gift for later on!

BensonStabler · 05/01/2021 18:27

I looked at YouTube and there are some stunning Ariel 4K UHD drone 3-8 hours videos with gentle relaxing music, or you can go on scenic tour videos like going for a drive or live vicariously through someone else sitting relaxing in the natural hot springs again gorgeous views.

I know you asked about food, but I really felt for you both not being able to go on such an amazing adventure. I'm sure you will have the real deal someday soon. Happy anniversary :) Flowers

My mum and dads was last summer and they got a posh takeaway afternoon tea and a cake to cut. Meant to be going on a once in a lifetime holiday but they still had a nice day

Mojitomogul · 05/01/2021 20:12

Brilliant I was reading this hoping you would be near Sevenoaks way- there is a company called Finediningchef, try looking them up on facebook (written as before with no spaces). They provide meals that you cook, but it is all prepped so will be easy for you to follow, but they're absolutely stunning meals. Kelly Brook used them recently so it was on her social media. Im pretty sure they are still open over lockdown.

Mojitomogul · 05/01/2021 20:18

Here is the link www.finediningchef.co.uk/delivery

Enko · 06/01/2021 12:10

@Mojitomogul thank you will have a look..

I have also found Simon Rogan at home so have something to compare with :)

@Queribus and @Labobo having a look :)

Just realised that as it is on a Wednesday I will be in virtual zoom call from 9 - 5 (my study day) I think I will just go for a bottle of champagne for me (dh doesn't like it ) and have him cook :)

Ours was in the summer and our dc cooked a lovely 3 course meal for us and dressed up as waiting staff and served us! They decorated the dining room and cooked a beautiful Italian meal (we were supposed to go to Italy for our anniversary where we had our honeymoon). It was lovely and memorable!

Starisnotanumber · 06/01/2021 14:23

If you are meat eaters Hawksmoor do nationwide delivery of full meals.
They also do different alcohols which can be included as part of the meal or purchased separately
