Only one parent a critical worker

According to multiple news sites it only has to be one parent for the child to access school - however I can’t seem to find anything on the gov website.

Any ideas?

During the first lockdown it depended on the schools own policy. My daughter's school required both parents to be critical workers, other local schools was just one.

I think it's school dependent

That gives them flexibility to respond based on how many children they might get and what their staffing situation is and how easy it is to make the school environment safer

Some will insist that both parents need to be key workers out of the home

Some will take a child even if both parents are at home if one is classed as a key worker

I'm not a keyworker, DH is. My children are at school. They allocate to single parent keyworkers and two parent families who are both keyworkers first and then to families like ours after that.

I think for most schools it's likely to be either two key workers or one key worker but the other is unable to work from home. Basically, there is a space if it's impossible for one of you to be at home. I do know someone who is a SAHP and got very angry and ended up deregistering their child because they couldn't get a key worker space. If it's available, I would take it up, but only if you really need it and can't manage to work from home flexibly.

My school hasn’t asked. They know I am a keyworker and what my job is, but haven’t asked what any other adults in the house do. They have also haven’t given any guidance whether they require us both to be keyworkers for DC to be eligible for a place. All they asked is are you a keyworker and what days do you require (impossible for me to answer as I don’t work the same days each week)

We had to fill in a really basic form. You couldn’t fill in for any addition parents so guess it only needed to be one? Me and DH both submitted forms. She got a space.

Our school (secondary) asks for people to respect a priorty list:

single parent key worker
both parents key worker
one of two parents key worker

The reason is purely so they can manage numbers and be fair (as much as possible).
