Ffs , what?!

We are both Key workers but can manage online learning for now, I’m at home. DD is year 5 and for her French lesson she has to make a French Pastry. Please tell me you wouldn’t be doing this either? (Because it’s a waste of time, ingredients and she learns zero French) it am I being a misery? I’m fairly certain this wouldn’t be the lesson plan if she was in school.

How is day one going for you all? Grin

Erm no. I wouldn't be doing this, there's no French learning going on there. But I will be baking a cake later because I have a tub of double cream needs using and it's a 'big fat cream cake' sort of day Grin

OP, I'll send you some Cake

Goodness me. French lessons have changed quite a lot since I was at school! I can’t wait to find out what you have to do for history.

Sorry you are going through this OP but thank you for the giggle - I really need it today.

Well, can she find a basic recipe in French so she would learn a few words? It can be fun, and she would get the cultural element. Something like a fruit tart, biscuits sablé or gateau marbré (marble cake), she could probably start on her own with a dictionary.

😆 glad it cheered you all up. We’ve moved on to maths Wine

Bejesus, am all for fun but if the school is passing that off as online learning they are CF (all sympathy to them mind you.)

sueelleker · 05/01/2021 16:36

Sounds like the instructions for a GBBO technical challenge.

depopsa · 05/01/2021 17:33

Haha, during last lockdown this was DC's whole assignement for one week. There was little engagement with work sheets set online so at some point the instructions were basically: bake a cake and do some Maths and English related to said cake. To be honest, it felt the most honest (and realistic) expectation during those months.

sunnysidegold · 05/01/2021 17:55

Oh FFS what an idiotic start. Not even bake a cake where you have a bit of maths with the measuring and a bit of following the instructions. But a French flipping pastry?! Are you just expected to have those ingredients knocking around? Are parents expected to have the time for this?

I am a primary teacher and primary parent - this is just like the time my kids were set flipping science experiments requiring blue food colouring during the last lockdown.

Can you tell I'm slightly annoyed today?!

Let’s just say I am going to fail with Dry January,

Say you're saving yourself for the DIY guillotine.
But why is it a waste of ingredients? You could make something fairly basic with butter, sugar and flour. Surely you'll eat it and it might be fun to do.

AnneElliott · 05/01/2021 18:07

I think I might have got a pack of frozen croissants- bout wouldn't have made any further effort than that!
