Can’t take anymore of the snoring- any advice?

My DH snores- all night- loudly- and has done for many years.
I poke, prod and even punch him through the night but it makes no difference.

The next morning he will say “oh well I’m not doing it on purpose am I” as though I am supposed to say “oh of course- well that’s ok then” Hmm

It’s getting to the point where I am tired all day every day. We have kids and I work full time so sleeping through the day is not an option.

So- to prevent the Daily Mails next headline being “wife beats husband to death in his sleep” do you have any advice? Tales of how you stopped a snorer? Anything!!

Seperate bedrooms or a sleep clinic. Snoring should always be checked for sleep apnoea as it can be a serious condition and deadly if left unchecked.

@TartanLassie Thanks for that, it's his birthday next month so that's his present sorted :)

JingsMahBucket · 05/01/2021 14:11

@TartanLassie what’s the name of your snoring app please? I want to pass that onto my husband. His snoring shakes the whole bed. I use ear plugs to block him out.

Hahah! Let me know how well it works users!

The snore app is SnoreLab

It's really good.

I'd see it as a massive red flag if DH doesn't even try to do anything about his snoring. Start kicking him out of bed and make him sleep on the sofa until he sorts it out!

But if he is willing to try things, there are lots of devices that can lessen the noise. It depends what kind of snoring he's doing. My DH was a tongue snorer and used to make weird little yelping sounds, so he got a mouthguard device that helped somewhat. The strips can help with stuffy nose snoring, and apparently the sprays can be good for mouth snoring.

@TartanLassie what App is that please? Interested to see what mine and my DH scores are

TartanLassie · 05/01/2021 15:59

App is

SnoreLab

Earthquake monitor? Grin

WhereDoMyBluebirdsFly · 05/01/2021 18:48

Haha, I think Snorelab will be getting a lot of downloads today!

I'm the snorer (according to people who've shared a room with me!) and I'm really embarrassed by it. I am single currently but can never share a room with friends on a trip or anything. I'm slim, healthy, don't drink or smoke; it's just the way my airways are laid out.

I'm going to test out Snorelab, then try the mouthguard to see if that helps.

luckiestgirl · 05/01/2021 19:02

I use ear plugs- it was an instant fix for me (you have to get ones that work though- I found foam ones rubbish)

Andi2020 · 05/01/2021 19:11

Snorelab can I use on dh without him knowing as he says he doesn't snore but he does. And breathes really heavy.

Molly333 · 05/01/2021 19:18

I could have written yr post only a few weeks ago where i had had enough of my partners hidious snoring . However I have a success story here !
I pushed my partner to go to the gp who sent him to the hospital for an assessment ( he had to wear a sleep monitor at home for one night) . He was then advised to have a CPAP machine which they provided. Guess what ? Virtual silence !!! Yes i can sleep! He initially hated wearing it as its not the most attractive but he has got used to it and i like him more .....

Oblomov20 · 05/01/2021 19:24

DH used to snore very badly. Then stopped. Apparently I now snore. But I used to regularly go away with 3 friends and every time I asked them and they said no.

TartanLassie · 05/01/2021 20:04

@WhereDoMyBluebirdsFly same here! Very fit and healthy! Resting heart rate is 51.

But fuck me do I snore. Think I've prob got a touch of sleep apnea too, well according to my Fitbit!

But the mouth guard really helps!

To the person who asked if she could use it without the other person knowing. Absolutely.

You just turn the app on, hit record and lay it facedown on the bedside cabinet. It picks up all sounds. I've got me sleep talking and the dog snoring 🙄 Hmmmm wonder if he'd keep the mouth guard in.

doctorhamster · 05/01/2021 20:19

No advice here op just solidarity. I've got to the point where I dread bed time because I know I'll be lying there trying to sleep whilst listening to dh snore. All I get in response to my complaints is "well I'm not doing it on purpose" Hmm

JingsMahBucket · 05/01/2021 21:05

@TartanLassie thanks for the app name. I’m wondering if the app counted your dog’s snoring in with yours too! 😂

user1471538283 · 05/01/2021 21:49

He needs to take responsibility to sort it out. It could be ill health, being overweight, alcohol. You could try separate bedrooms

vodkaredbullgirl · 05/01/2021 22:12

Pillow

OxanaVorontsova · 05/01/2021 22:14

Spare room is the only way forward Wink

Chelsea567 · 05/01/2021 22:14

I'm lucky. I have a spare room. I love DH very much but I've slept in the spare room for the last 2 years. Grin

Serenschintte · 05/01/2021 22:15

What stopped my DH snoring was the metabolic balance program. I noticed after a few weeks that the snoring had stopped. He hadn’t lost so much weight but no more snoring. Bliss

Chelsea567 · 05/01/2021 22:17

When we're on holiday and have to share I find copious amounts of red wine really helps! Don't hear a thing Grin

amicissimma · 05/01/2021 22:32

Separate rooms. Or at least separate mattresses as the vibrations transmit through the mattress.

I have tried every ear plug known to mankind and nothing works, but now I use white noise played through /sleepphones, with ear plugs so that the white noise doesn't have to be too loud. And that works.

You can record him just using the voice recorder on your phone.

natashaaaaa · 05/01/2021 22:35

I sleep with headphones in playing white noice all night. Cannot hear a thing! Utter bliss. If one of the children wakes, husband just gives me a prod but I cannot hear anything.
