Use by date was November 2020...

I would and have done before with no problems.

Marasme · 04/01/2021 15:49

yes

jamesfailedmarshmallows · 04/01/2021 15:50

Absolutely, yes.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 04/01/2021 15:51

Yes, up to about 6 months out of date probably. I would spread some out on a plate and make absolutely sure there weren't any little critters in it though.

LaliqueRene · 04/01/2021 15:51

providing there were no flour weevils in it then yes. but even then the temperature you bake the flour at would kill off the weevils.

Notcontent · 04/01/2021 15:52

Great - thank you!

And yes, I will check for any weevils etc!

Yes, i would sniff and if it doesn't smell bad I would use, and I would probably not look too closely for critters Grin

KezzabellaB · 04/01/2021 15:52

Definitely. And have.

katy1213 · 04/01/2021 15:53

That's hardly out of date at all! Why are people so intimidated by use-by dates?

MadameButterface · 04/01/2021 15:54

Would, did, have, lived to tell the tale

nancywhisky · 04/01/2021 15:55

Depends if it's self raising or plain.

Plain yes,but self raising... might not get best results.

VanGoghsDog · 04/01/2021 15:55

I take it out of the packet and put it in a tub so I don't even know what the use by dates are!

Pretty sure I'd have used it years out of date. But as long as it doesn't smell rancid nor have stringy weevil bits in, it's fine.

MMM2 · 04/01/2021 15:56

Yes

BackforGood · 04/01/2021 15:56

Yes unless you are talking decades

Notcontent · 04/01/2021 16:01

Have smelled it and sifted it, and all good.

I am a bit paranoid about flour as I had a weevil infestation once many years ago and have never recovered from the trauma of finding those stringy bits in the flour! I remember I had to empty out my pantry cupboard, scrub it clean and throw out most things.

Sometimes I've found it doesn't rise properly if it's out of date, but that's the only thing.

Nacreous · 04/01/2021 16:38

I might add a bit of extra baking powder to SR flour if it was out of date to help it on its way as it sometimes doesn't rise as well.

StandardPoodle · 04/01/2021 19:23

Yes and have done in the past (though I'd check it wasn't moving under its own steam.........).

Marylou62 · 05/01/2021 09:07

Haha! Was baking in the last lock down and after cooking and eating the delicious peach cobbler I noticed the flour was over 2 years out of date... We were fine..
