Posted several Christmas cards with £10 in each of them. Posted the deadline day for 1st class mail to reach destinations before christmas.

They still haven't arrived. It isn't looking good is it?

If you left it till the deadline day, then they are probably caught in the backlog.

OhToBeASeahorse · 04/01/2021 14:06

Oh I hope so! That's hopeful.

My children were sent cards containing vouchers from relatives in different parts of the country, one posted on the 1st December and one on the 2nd. They arrived on Xmas eve! So I would think there is still hope.

endofthelinefinally · 04/01/2021 14:07

Never put cash in cards.

Dollywilde · 04/01/2021 14:09

I had a couple of Christmas cards arrive today, one from my auntie who is v organised and definitely will have posted before the deadline. So you never know!!

Plonque · 04/01/2021 14:14

I had a "lost" parcel from well before Christmas turn up today.
But you should never send cash by unregistered post. They are renowned for going missing.

MartiniDry · 04/01/2021 14:26

My London resident parents received 9 Christmas cards in today's post. Yes, nine! There may be hope for yours yet.

sunnysidegold · 04/01/2021 14:28

I just received a first class Christmas card this morning!

VenusClapTrap · 04/01/2021 14:30

A parcel containing my niece’s Christmas presents hasn’t arrived either. Posted first week of December. Sad

shinynewapple2021 · 04/01/2021 14:36

I posted a card to a friend who lives 3 miles away first class and it took 10 days to get there

shinynewapple2021 · 04/01/2021 14:39

Can I just ask regarding people saying don't put cash in cards - can understand if it's a large amount as there is no comeback / insurance etc but if it's £10 in a card , why would you think it would more likely go missing than just a card? Aside from the unpleasant assumption Royal Mail staff are thieving , how can they tell what's in a sealed envelope ?

BikeRunSki · 04/01/2021 14:39

A parcel posted on 2 Nov arrived on 22 Dec! There had been a huge backlog, but don’t give up hope.

Turnedouttoes · 04/01/2021 14:48

I’d hold on. I run a small business and had loads of parcels sent first class well within the posting dates that didn’t arrive. They seem to be slowing making it through now

SmudgeButt · 04/01/2021 14:54

I hate the fact that I have a stack of cards for the previous owner of our house sitting by the door. Only 1 has a return address. I could pop that in a post box and bin the rest but I think it's massively sad. When I can I will pop into the estate agent and ask them for the 3rd year in a row if they can forward the cards as I don't have the address.

I can only suppose that the previous owner hasn't bothered to put their return address on any of their cards either - is there something "elderly" about that in general?

ComtesseDeSpair · 04/01/2021 14:59

We’re still getting Christmas cards posted the week before Christmas, and a package I posted first class recorded on the 23rd just arrived at its destination today, so there’s hope.

SkepticalCat · 04/01/2021 15:04

I posted a cheque to someone on 18th December (they don't do Internet banking so couldn't just do a transfer) which is yet to arrive.

We had no post at all for over a week before Christmas and only two deliveries since then I think.

TrashCanBird · 04/01/2021 15:19

We got 2 cards yesterday that were posted on the 17th and 18th.

Affor · 04/01/2021 15:20

Never put cash in cards. Every card I've ever received that should have had cash in, has been empty.

Blobby10 · 04/01/2021 15:23

Royal Mail were delivering letters yesterday - yes, Sunday - on my estate. I can only assume it was to try and clear the backlog from before Christmas.

itsgettingweird · 04/01/2021 15:26

I've had my first mail in 10 days today.

All shite that went straight into recycling Grin

I know there was national backlog but also know our local office had covid outbreak and think rounds are every 3 days rather than daily.

I also think they have decreased numbers in office now as wasn't covid secure and after outbreak workers spoke up.
Support them fully. No one should have to work somewhere without at least putting in covid secure measures.

FrancesHaHa · 04/01/2021 15:40

I'm still waiting for post sent way before Christmas. I also sent a parcel second class to family in another county between Christmas and new year and they received it the following day. DD's theory is they are delivering from the top of the pile and never getting to the parcels at the bottom.

Fangdrew · 04/01/2021 17:51

Cash can easily be stolen from cards sent through the post, it happened to someone I know. Cards delivered with the envelopes slit open and cash gone.

LIZS · 04/01/2021 17:53

A number of cards sent before or on last posting date only arrived after Christmas, if at all. UK and abroad.

MegaClutterSlut · 04/01/2021 17:54

Dhs aunt sent him a b-day card with money in. Someone had slit it down the side and taken the money out

BarryGlendenning · 04/01/2021 18:16

In wouldn't do it and nothing to do with thieving - just in case it gets lost, there's no comeback. I used to send cheques, now I just transfer then I know it's reached the intended recipient.
