I had a positive covid test 2 weeks ago and around 8 days ago started to feel very nauseous and sick. This has got worse and worse and I was in hospital yesterday on a drip. The covid symptoms are now gone so I don't know if this is a red herring.

The symptoms i have are exactly like the hyperemesis I had when pregnant, I have never felt like this at any other time apart from when pregnant. I am 100% not pregnant, no possible chance for over 18 months.

Has anyone had severe sickness that turned out to be hormone related? I suspect I may have an ovarian cyst and I'm waiting for the results of a scan, could this be causing it? I cant carry on like this, barely functioning. I can't even walk across the room without retching and have lost over a stone in a week.

I will call my gp tomorrow but has anyone had anything similar? This is not a sickness bug, this is definitely exactly what I get when I'm pregnant down to the same food aversions, too much saliva, smells and sounds that set it off, etc. Thank you for reading. Im just looking for anyone who may have had this and found the cause and solution.

I am often physically sick and nauseous when I am pre-menstrual and during my period so sickness can be hormone related. I have PCOS too.
Not nearly enough to be hospitalised though.

They will do blood tests. I hope you feel better OP.

thank you for your response. I am prone to a bit of neausea mid cycle but nothing like this. Im not eating, drinking, sleeping and not able to work. God knows how I'm going to facilitate zoom lessons and online learning tomorrow with 2 children.
I've tried 4 different sickness pills and they don't touch it although they never did when i was pregnant either. I just pray my dr takes it seriously and helps me.

Your doctor should take it seriously. It’s not normal and you are not well.

God knows how I'm going to facilitate zoom lessons and online learning tomorrow with 2 children.
Are you a teacher doing zoom lessons for your classes at school or are you helping your DC with their lessons?
If you are a teacher, call in sick.
If you are the parent, seriously, forget it or do what you can. You are not well and your DC will not suffer.

Sorry, not a teacher. We've just had the timetable through and its 3 zoom lessons and 2 sets of work set online each. They are years 6 and 3 and should be able to do most of it alone but the 8 year old might need some guidance. DH is wfh tomorrow so will be able to help them when he can but then it's up to me.

I'm so concerned that they're just going to tell me to wait and see or that they're not going to find any cause and I dont think I can go on like this. At least with hyperemesis you know it's all for a good reason!

Thank you so much for the replies, it makes me feel not so alone with this. DH is brilliant and doing all he can but I feel so guilty that I cant do anything in the house or with the kids. Its been since boxing day!

I had this level of nausea from the COVID-19 infection. Only started day 6 and continued ever since. Huge aversions to food, smells, and just general unrelenting sickness. Apparently the virus can attack your stomach and intestines causing the symptoms but it's hard to find anything more than that online. They can test your stool for it and see the damage with a scope apparently. I've just been having dry toast and avoiding all liquids except cold water and it seems to be helping - even a sip of tea is setting me off otherwise :(

Sueaxlbrick · 04/01/2021 00:06

Sorry I don't know how to answer one poster directly - to Maria1990 - did you have a test that showed this? How long have you had it now? Is there anything anyone can do? Thank you for responding, it really helps

I am recovering from COVID. I had really bad nausea as did everyone else i know who contracted it at the same time. I wasnt vomiting but others were Thats at least ten people . Maybe its the new strain.

Sueaxlbrick · 04/01/2021 00:15

I did initially just put it down to a covid symptom but because it's been so long and appears to be getting worse I thought I might have been wrong. Its horrendous. I hated it when pregnant but got though it by thinking of the baby but this is just relentless. I am getting a sick note tomorrow as I work from home answering phones and I can't even talk without retching at the moment.
So sorry for everyone else who is suffering this at the moment.

I promise you it will pass, this was one of my symptoms post covid.

What helped was ginger biscuits and herbal teas with ginger and honey based flavours, also the three mint tea from pukka.

If you can jump on Holland and Barrett website, these really calm the feeling, they keep you hydrated and add some sugar.

If you can have warm baths and try to lay down and deep breaths as well, I found it really helped.

I'm sorry I know the feeling well and it's not pleasant. You have my sympathy.

Sueaxlbrick · 04/01/2021 08:14

Thank you, to hear it will pass is a great help. I hope it won't be much longer, how long did yours last?
