What classic games should a 7 year old know how to play?

So far we've got frustration, snakes and ladders, ludo, monopoly. Getting a bit bored of them now (and the games only lasting all of 5 mins to play!).

Any recommendations? Would chess be too difficult? Thinking maybe draughts instead?

My five and eight year olds learnt chesa this holiday and have got the hang of it quite well. How about Cluedo? We have started playing that with the 8 year old. Also play lots of Connect 4 and Guess Who and Bingo!

That should say chess!

Please tell me the secret of playing monopoly in 5 mins.

Qwirkle -DD was playing this very competently at 6.

Dobble - great from about 4 up!

My 5 year old loves chess and my 8 year old is better than me at it now so definitely try that. Other games that we all enjoy are labyrinth, carcasonne, Scotland Yard, cluedo and dobble

BikeRunSki · 02/01/2021 21:58

@BogRollBOGOF - my dc can makes it last daaays. They are very stressful days.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 02/01/2021 22:01

Dd is 7 and can play

Connect 4
Guess who
Monopoly
Uno
Snakes and ladders
Frustration
Ludo

She's not really interested in chess but I would think it would be a good one to start. Also kids versions of trivial pursuit maybe?

Monopoly is best if you change the rules to let you build houses and hotels on any property you own, not just if you have the whole set. It makes it twice as quick and more cutthroat.

Yes it has been a long lockdown.
