How many glasses do you have?

Boring one, sorry!

Browsing JL’s website - I didn’t realise there are so many different types of glasses. Eg Specific glasses for Prosecco/white wine/red win/gin/cocktails etc, alongside standard glasses/mugs.

Does anyone actually own all the separate variants? What would you say are essentials? Thanks

@ShirleyPhallus actually crying at that vivid description! That would give me the heebie jeebies too, anyone offering those out will get a side eyeGrin

Reminds me that of the odds and ends that survived my uni days!

I’m going to order champagne flutes and red wine glasses - as I think my Prosecco glasses can double up for white wine/gin? I don’t have much room thanks to our ridiculous amount of mugs!

Cupboards full of the things. Boxes in the shed too. Lots as wedding presents, some family sets and cheap ones for drinks parties.
A nice set of Atlantis crystal for supper parties - a dozen of each sort.

JustAPassingFashion · 01/01/2021 21:25

4 tumblers, 4 tall thinner ones, 8 champagne flutes, 4 champagne saucers, 6 gin glasses 3 pint glasses (one broke Hmm) and then a few various shot glasses.
There are a few differently shaped beer glasses in the cupboard too but they've probably not been touched in 5 years...

Oh, and 4 wine glasses. I think technically they're 'white' but we use them for either

Bluesmartiesandpandapop · 01/01/2021 21:55

3 high balls (out of a set of 4). All my glasses got broken during a house move (also the plates, bowls, etc. all packed by the movers badly 😖) and I have not found the need for more than that as we haven't been able to have guests and my youngest 2 kids drink out of plastic beakers

InvisibleToEveryone · 01/01/2021 23:08

4/5 large ikea chunky
4/5 small ikea chunky
2 whiskey
1 my DD pinched from a pub...in fairness it's really nice! I'd get a set if I knew where I could.
2/3 pint pots.
6? Plastic half pint pots from a closing down nightclub, handy for picnics and little ones.

basilsmom · 02/01/2021 09:13

We've got, Crystal red wine and white wine, basic wine glasses, crystal champagne glasses, basic champagne glasses, crystal rum and whiskey glasses. Basic rum and whisky glasses. LSA rum and whiskey glasses. Then a big mixture of different sized water glasses. Should prob have a clear out!

basilsmom · 02/01/2021 09:14

Plus the usual million tea/coffee mugs

basilsmom · 02/01/2021 09:15

And martini glasses

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 02/01/2021 09:18

6 soda glasses.
6 small tumblers.

Have a small kitchen and none of us really drink alcohol so fancy glasses aren't needed.

SinkGirl · 02/01/2021 09:22

We don’t have space for loads.

4 medium wine glasses which we use for red or white (we don’t drink wine often so only when people are here)
6 champagne flutes but they are so little (smaller than normal ones) - need to replace them
4 tumblers for other drinks
4 shorter vintage glasses which are good for things like Baileys etc or can also be used for wine at a push
2 hot chocolate glasses

That’s it. Would love fancy martini glasses but don’t drink booze often enough to get much use.

Blackberrycream · 02/01/2021 09:34

18 picardie type short tumblers ( used for everyday water and juice but can also be wine glasses )
6 random wine glasses - due to regular breakages
Some crystal sherry and whisky glasses that I should let go but we’re a present from my parents so I feel guilty.
2 really nice stemless wine glasses free from naked wine. They are my favourite now for wine drinking. I would like more but looked them up and they are nearly £20 a glass so that won’t be happening.
I collect the picardie tumblers as in more normal times there are a few times a year when far flung and local friends get together at my house for food and drinks. It’s nice to be able to drink out of glass and it’s no fuss as they’re suitable for grown up drinks too ( they’re often used as wine glasses in France ). They’re almost indestructible too.
Not a boring thread at all ( well not to me anyway). I’m finding it quite interesting and a nice escape from more fractious issues!

DinosApple · 02/01/2021 09:47

Loads of mismatched glasses, you'd all give me the side eye Grin.

3 large wine glasses, two short flutes, three tall flutes, a stubby wine glass, six Carling pint glasses (freebies- not nicked)
Six sherry glasses.
Four champagne saucers.
Four red wine glasses. They're LSA extremely thin stemmed things so we don't use them much!

Finally, my pride and joy, a pair of lead crystal cognac glass. I drink expensive cognac so that's my rare treat!

AdaColeman · 02/01/2021 10:13

3 sets of champagne flutes
Various brandy glasses
2 sets of sherry/port glasses
2 sets of liqueur glasses plus various shot glasses
Set of Paris goblets
2 sets of cocktail glasses
Set of highball glasses
Set of gin glasses
Sets of white wine & red wine glasses
Various pint & half pint glasses
At least 6 glasses for specific Belgian beers
Some tiny glasses for Advocaat
Collection of assorted tumblers for casual use.

Chewbecca · 02/01/2021 10:17

I daren’t count.

We have 2 or 3 shelves in the kitchen dedicated to glasses but a unit in the dining room which is full of non - everyday glasses.

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 02/01/2021 10:21

Never counted. We have lots of odd ones left over from sets and various branded pint glasses DH picked up at beer festivals over the year. We only have three matching wine glasses left over from a set of six but it doesn't seem worth getting a new set when there are only 2 of us and visitors unlikely to be allowed in the foreseeable future.

AlwaysLatte · 02/01/2021 10:40

Too many to count!
About 16 different sized Picardy glasses that are robust for the kids and the small ones are fine for wine - kept in the kitchen
About 50 wine glasses (different sets mostly crystal)
About 30 tall and slightly shorter champagne flutes
About 12 bowl champagne glasses
Lots of water glasses (different sets)
20 ish Whisky glasses
8 ish brandy balloons
And around 200 party glasses in the garage.
Apart from the day to day kitchen glasses and some of the nicer daily ones on a rack like the attached, most of them are in a cabinet in the dining room.

How many glasses do you have?
prettybird · 02/01/2021 11:51

Too many to count Blush

A cupboard full of "everyday" drinking glasses (and some mugs) in the kitchen: a mix of water glasses, tumblers, wine glasses, pint glasses, 6 bubbly glasses (for our Friday night Cava). In the dining room we have 6 Riedel sommelier Bordeaux glasses (giant ones - but you still only put a small amount of wine in them), 1 Riedel sommelier Burgundy glass, multiple Riedel Vinum ("everyday" Riedels) Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Chianti, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and champagne glasses, 3 Darlington dessert wine glasses (one hot broken Sad), multiple different "good" champagne glasses, some brandy glasses, two fancy tasting glasses and 6 cut crystal whisky glasses Shock

Plus upstairs we have 48 ISO tasting glasses.

To be fair, lots of them were wedding presents (to which I or SIL have added over the years as Christmas/birthday presents to dh) and dh is passionate about wine, we have a wee hobby wine business and for a while he was studying to be a Master of Wine (and hopes to go back to it some time).

JaneJeffer · 02/01/2021 11:56

Are we including Nutella jars? If so I have loads!

TwoZeroTwoZero · 02/01/2021 12:07

We have a couple of tall tumblers and matching shot glasses with coloured bottoms. I bought them as props for an idea I had for a still-life photo. We never use them.

We have a rounded tumbler that came with a gin set. We never use it.

We have 2 champagne flutes that I bought as a prop for a photo. We never use them.

We have a brandy glass that dh brought when he moved in. We never use it.

We have a Cidre glass. We never use it.

We have a weird, swirly wine glass that I bought as a prop for a still-life photo. We never use it.

We have some tall pint glasses from Tesco. Dh uses one of them for drinking really dilute squash.

We have loads of the glass jars from the Gü chocolate spread. We use them as tumblers. We use them all the time.

OhToBeASeahorse · 02/01/2021 12:54

Prosecco should go in champagne flutes as the shape is best for bubbles.

Gin is fine in tumblers.

We have white wine, red wine, tumblers, liqueur, champagne, beer, whiskey.. I suspect there is more!

OhToBeASeahorse · 02/01/2021 12:55

We have between 6 and 8 of most of them

kowari · 02/01/2021 13:03

8 in total
6 300ml glasses
1 half pint glass
1 pint glass
