Warm, lined, not denim boys trousers.. the holy grail of childrens wear??!!

Im looking for warm, preferably lined, boys trousers for my 4 year old (wears age 4-5 clothes in case it's relevant) - he's at forest nursery 4 days a week and needs trousers of reasonable thickness under his puddle suit at this time of year.

They need to be -

• not denim
• good to move around in
• preferably £10 or less per pair
• preferably drawstring waist or pull on

Jeans aren't good (if they get wet they're awful, and we both have a washing powder allergy that is weirdly much worse when we wear denim), and I don't love bog standard jogging bottoms, as they seem to go at the knees so quickly and aren't all that warm. Also don't want big logos- think it sets them up for asking for them when they're older, and keen to avoid the "£100 tracksuit" scenario.

I used to be able to buy the precisely perfect trousers from H&M (they were like cords with a jersey lining) but it looks like they're not on sale any more, and I can't find anything comparable for less than £20 a pair (Gap do a version but in the sale they're nearly twenty quid)!!!

Does anyone have any ideas?

I used to be able to buy trousers like that from Sainsburys - but haven’t looked for a couple of years.

To be honest, I would send him in joggers or if you’re really keen to avoid those then looseish ordinary trousers with thermals underneath. My DS used to wear tights until he was about 6.

A bit more than £10 these ones are just over £15 but they lasted my boys years, passed down to second boy then passed on to a friend. Perfect for digging, climbing etc. Lined, elasticated waist

Can you get some thermal legging type things that he can wear under trousers? Jogging bottoms probably most comfy over them, but I know what you mean about the knees. Could reinforce them with those iron-on patches?

Uniqlo heat tech. Buy them every year and we’ve used them twice in Finland in winter when it’s been very cold.

My kids like these and say they are nice and warm.

I would do thermal leggings or warm tights under his normal trousers.

Lindex- they do really nice recycled fleece joggers and warm lined leggings. Affordable and good quality.

My son wore thermal leggings and vest to forest school
With tracksuit bottoms And long sleeved t shirt and a hoodie or jumper on top

Lands End do some very nice fleece lined leggings and joggers, not cheap but they often have 40% off if you look. Good quality and wash well. I also reinforce the knees of my 7 year olds joggers by patching on the inside, he goes through the knees like nothing else.

We bought some cargo trousers from Sainsbury's recently. I can't make the link work but they're on the website as "Navy Lined Cargo Trousers (9 Months-6 Years)"

I've had lined trousers from Sainsbury's which were great. But maybe base layers would be helpful?

Gap have these ones in the sale. I think XS is around 4-5 years. They are quick dry too.

Definitely Land's End or Uniqlo. Both my boys have these.

Few years ago now but Boden always did these types of lined cargo trousers. They are more expensive but I always found they lasted really really well and could be handed down. Sometimes it’s better to spend a bit more maybe on something that’s good quality? BodeN often have discount codes too.

DS1 has some black lined drawstring (but the outside is denim) trousers from Asda which almost fit the bill.

He also has corduroy trousers from H&M which are really warm and comfortable but not a drawstring waist (just one button)

I buy all my boys lined trousers from la redoute, h&m and verbaudet.

Asda. They're about £4 a pair and they're brilliant: warm, fleece lined, elasticated waist with a draw string, and they wash pretty well. I buy the exact same ones in the next size up every year. I'll see if I can find you a link.

I live in continental Europe and out here you get jersey-lined rainpants which are perfect for Forest School. I’ll see if I can see anything similar in U.K. shops...
