With hand gestures.

His reply?

“Well personally I would advise against putting anything like that inside yourself for any length of time it doesn’t sound very comfortable” Hmm

Wtf fella?

Ok

KaptainKaveman · 01/01/2021 15:20

What is a mensural cup?

Splodgetastic · 01/01/2021 15:21

Personally I don’t find them very comfortable!

And?

unmarkedbythat · 01/01/2021 15:22

Why would you need to explain that to a GP? Confused

Nosig · 01/01/2021 15:23

Surely a GP should know what one is? This isn’t something new or unusual is it?

OP posts:
doctorhamster · 01/01/2021 15:24

I didn't know they existed until a couple of years ago.

doctorhamster · 01/01/2021 15:24

I'm not sure why you would expect a GP to know?

Nosig · 01/01/2021 15:24

@unmarkedbythat, I had a swollen lymph node in my groin. He was looking for a source of infection from my lower limbs. I mentioned I had possibly scratched myself changing my cup over

OP posts:
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 01/01/2021 15:25

Does he know about tampons?!

Strike000 · 01/01/2021 15:25

I’m with you OP. If he didn’t know what it was, he shouldn’t have made a judgemental comment about it. I might’ve expected “oh I’ve never heard of menstrual cups, I’ll have to look them up.” As a GP surely he should be interested in actual evidence?!

unmarkedbythat · 01/01/2021 15:27

Ah, that makes so much more sense.

Something very odd about this thread.

WankPuffins · 01/01/2021 15:27

I wouldn't expect a GP to know. Especially an older one. He shouldn't have made comment on something he doesn't know about though (I guess that's a hard thing not to do for some of them!).

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/01/2021 15:31

Hopefully he will go off and read about them. That would be useful knowledge fir him and enable him to perhaps offer more up to date advice to his patients.

Runkle · 01/01/2021 15:33

It's not as if they're GP recommended and he doesn't know what one is. To be fair they don't sound comfortable when explained and I did try them which proved that.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 01/01/2021 15:33

That's pretty shocking tbh.

KaptainKaveman · 01/01/2021 15:35

@Nosig

Don’t be a dick you know I meant menstrual
Wow you're aggressive aren't you? I feel sorry for your GP tbh.
Orf1abc · 01/01/2021 15:36

I mentioned I had possibly scratched myself changing my cup over

In which case his comment was justified. If your nails are long enough that you're potentially scratching yourself and introducing infection, then a cup is not ideal.

Anyoldname12 · 01/01/2021 15:42

Wow you're aggressive aren't you? I feel sorry for your GP tbh.
Calling out your faux naive pointed comment wasn’t aggressive. Your comment was bullshit and you know it.

I’m with you OP, he should be passing off his uninformed thoughts like that as a medical professional like that.

Didiplanthis · 01/01/2021 15:43

Actually thinking about it , I have been on plenty of gynae update courses and they have never been mentioned..I know what they are because I am female and menstruating. I doubt quite a few older GPs especially men have heard of them. I have never been told about them "professionally' ... likewise I have never been told about pads/tampons etc except regarding TSS. We are taught about menstrual problems etc but not the collection of ! If someone is never told about something even if they attend update courses they can't know about it..

MoiJeJous · 01/01/2021 15:44

I would expect a GP to know what a menstrual cup is and if he didn’t, he shouldn’t be giving advice.

Hollybutnoivy · 01/01/2021 15:45

I'm not surprised. I was surprised when I had to explain to my midwife what a nuchal scan was.

Didiplanthis · 01/01/2021 15:45

I agree he should be looking it up not passing comment though !!!

Wankerchief · 01/01/2021 15:47

This is why i wont talk to male doctors about any women’s problems.
