What the hell is leaving this in my conservatory overnight?

Sorry it’s a poo related one. Promise I’m not a troll.

I’m fed up of waking every day to see several of these stringy poos over the conservatory floor. I don’t know what’s making them. I’ve sealed all cracks.

I hate the conservatory anyway as it’s always a bit shabby and was poorly made (thanks previous owner!) but am trying to make the best of it. But this is causing me serious irritation.

What is it? Which animal do I have to find a way to get rid of? please don’t say a rat

What the hell is leaving this in my conservatory overnight?

Well I did not think I’d be seeing in the new year googling ‘long thin poo’. Came up with some fun results there.

I’m impressed at the collective sleuthing mumsnet mindhive. To answer a few questions: no we do not have cats, they are found in different places but always on the floor, no they aren’t squidgy and my first guess to DH was that they are tiny worms but he’s sure they are poo, umm I’ve forgotten the other questions. Damn crap late night early morning memory.

If they are black works why are they coming in? And why are they dying overnight?

There is no food or organic material in the crapservatory.

Perhaps they are explorers going out to find a new promised land, only to find the new planet has temperatures incompatible with life. But alas they die before returning to tell their fellow worm-beings and thus more come each day.

Yep. I’ve watched way too much crap Netflix this month.

Worms, obviously.

Definitely snail/slug poo.

lljkk · 01/01/2021 11:36

Spider poo identification (it's teeny scattered spots, btw).

I'm voting dried out slug, too is OP's thing. Found one in my living room other day, too.

Poppins2016 · 01/01/2021 11:38

@Bluntness100

Are you sure it’s poo? Not a black worm?

The only long thing poo I can think of is hedgehog. But wouldn’t be that thin I think,

Is your conservatory damp? Becayse that attracts black worms.

Definitely not hedgehog poo (which looks like scaled down dog poo and is just as smelly and disgusting...).
GloGirl · 01/01/2021 11:44

My guess is they dry out and then a draft blows them to where you can see?

Chosennonesneakymincepie · 01/01/2021 11:54

Wait... worms can come out of plant pots? 😬🙈

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 01/01/2021 12:01

Have you tried dissecting it to see if it’s actually a creature or poo? It looks more like dried slugs / worms but I wouldn’t have thought they would dry up that quickly overnight.

Daisydoesnt · 01/01/2021 12:01

Its a dried up worm! Honestly, it's not poo. Put it in some water and see how it rehydrates. If it disintegrates you're right it's poo (and I'll come and clean it up for you) but I bet it will plimy up and you'll see that it's a dried out worm. It's dried out because they live underground where its damp.

Viviennemary · 01/01/2021 12:05

If that's spider poo I'd hate to see the size of the spider Grin. Looks a bit too long and thin to be a dried up slug. We get these occasionally.

Bluntness100 · 01/01/2021 12:12

They will come in in small cracks in the floors or walls. Maybe round the edges.

If you google black or brown worms in conservatory you’ll see loads of images.

Tehmina23 · 01/01/2021 12:14

To me it looks like hedgehog poo but I doubt a hedgehog could get in!

RebeccaCloud9 · 01/01/2021 12:15

Haha not spider! But spiders do poo, it's little dark brown dots. You can see splatters of it if you have a spider in one corner for a while.

That was going to be my next suggestion, put it in a dish of water and see what happens.

Do you have a compost heap nearby? Compost worms are all fairly small and thin and of a similar size.

shreddednips · 01/01/2021 12:26

I've just googled a lot of different shits. I reckon this is a snail poop, they are stringy.

IamEarthymama · 01/01/2021 12:48

DW recoiled and said,
It's a tarantula's leg. She does NOT like spiders
Or a big slug
Or a dried up worm

Set up a webcam!

Hedgehog poo is much bigger, it isn't long and thin like this.

Nope, that's not what hedgehog poo looks like. Hedgehog poo is surprisingly big.

OP, I agree with PP, that looks like a dried up worm.

Bluntness100 · 01/01/2021 13:45

If it is poo it would be snail poo I think, but you’d see the snails. They would still be in there likely

Or there would at least be silvery trails. We had slugs in an old house, never saw a slug but lots of trails.
Illstartexercisingtomorrow · 01/01/2021 22:51

No snails or slugs visible.

And who suggested the poo-autopsy??! Envy

cautiouscovidity · 01/01/2021 23:06

Put it on a piece of damp kitchen roll. If it's poo, it'll leave a browny-yellow stain. If it's a desiccated worm or slug, probably not.
