Linen bedding

MoriaRoseForever · 31/12/2020 09:48

I am looking at new bedding and wondered about linen . I always have cotton but wondered what linen feels like to sleep on. It seems very expensive.

Is it worth it ?

Any recommended places that sell it at a reasonable price ?

Thanks

Yes, nice to sleep on, but TBH I’ve never felt that much difference from pure cotton. It needs a lot of ironing!

Not that we have it, but a relative of dh with a huge holiday home in France inherited all the beautiful linen sheets from the former owners, who’d run it as an upmarket B&B.

The local woman who ‘does’, and frequently has 8+ beds to change, was given an ironing machine to help her cope with it all.

Read somewhere you don't need to iron as it looks good crumpled ??

Ours came from Soak and Sleep. I tumble dry it. Life's too short to iron duvet covers and sheets but I do sometimes press the pillowcases.

Lovely to sleep on so long as its not wrinkled ! If it is wrinkled I find it very uncomfortable in a way that cotton/polycotton is not. My sheets are all heavy and I don't have a tumble dryer so that may make wrinkling more of an issue. I would not say that it looks good crumpled any more than linen clothes look good crumpled.

I love my linen and never iron it. It's much more comfortable to me than cotton.

We have a linen/cotton mix which is a great compromise.

I've got a French linen set from Soak and Sleep - it makes a nice change from white cotton, and feels cool in summer. I dry it over banisters and give it a minimal iron to get the inner flap flat, but it has a natural rumpled look anyway.

FraughtwithGin · 01/01/2021 12:26

I do not have linen bottom sheets, but duvet covers and pillow cases from Ada and Ina, they are lovely.
As previous posters have mentioned, you do not need to iron them. I dry mine in the dryer and then get them out pronto and hang them over the bannisters. They look pretty ok to me and are very comfy to sleep under both in winter and in summer.
I do iron the pillow cases now and again.

I got mine from John Lewis. I prefer a cotton bottom sheet, with linen duvet cover and pillowcases.
No ironing here, love the look of crumpled linen.

I have sheets, super king duvet cover and pillow slips, bought in the summer from La Redoute (European sizing but fits our ikea duvet)

I adore them, they get softer with each wash and I tumble them rather than iron (I don't iron anything) but I've now spotted that ikea do a much cheaper set in plain colours that I'll get next time I'm passing and they're open!

On first sleep my husband said it was like sleeping in a sack. Fool.

H&M washed linen also lovely and meant to look rumpled. I'm addicted.

Sadly they don't do super king. Shame as good price .

I love linen and won’t have anything else. It’s so hard wearing yet gets lovely & soft. No ironing is a big bonus. I get linen sheets too. The best I’ve found is from La Redoute. Only buy with an offer though!

Some of the Redoute reviews say they are sized large . Did you find that ?

I’ve not really had an issue with sizing, I buy this range from them.

www.laredoute.co.uk/ppdp/prod-350048861.aspx?docid=746620

The duvet cover is a tiny bit longer than the duvet but not a problem for me. The pillow cases & fitted sheet fit perfectly.

Thanks. They seem to have two ranges, the one you link to the less expensive than the elina . Not sure the difference .

I’ve only ever bought the range I linked to, I think the last set lasted me about 7 years and I only stopped using it because the retinol I use discoloured the pillowcases and duvet! I buy white now 😁

Yes retinol or acids, not sure which discoloured them! Glad to help 😊
