Invisalign - what can I eat?!

Hi all,
I'm on day 3 of wearing invisalign, I'm getting used to it but eating is still pretty unpleasant. I have 3 clips on my teeth too which makes it worse.
Anyway, not too bad while I'm at home managing the what to eat thing as can take my time, but when I go back to work, I do not get long enough to nibble bread and pate, or take half an hour over a bowl of soup.
So I was thinking meal replacement drinks for breakfast and lunch.
Anyone got any experience of invisalign and how to consume enough calories in your very limited window (they have to be worn 22 hours a day).
On the plus side I'm very likely to lose a bit of weight and cut down my wine consumption!

Really interested to hear stories, thanks!

Invisalign shouldn't be painful. Maybe give the dentist a call

I did Invisalign and just ate as usual. On the first day or two of each aligner there was a bit of tenderness but not enough to stop me eating. I’d get them checked out.

I’m currently week 26 of 36 (my teeth were fucked!!)

Cereal was my go to in the beginning, your teeth will be so sensitive so maybe give porridge a try? Also soups/yoghurts etc?

I must admit, once I got used to them I used to leave my out for longer if I was going out for a meal - they still move. The difference has been outstanding!

My dentist said you can drink with them in - so as long as it’s not red wine/blackcurrent juice it’ll be fine!

They should settle down soon. I would leave then out for longer and eat a lot of cheese for now

Just eat normally, but don’t wrap your tray in a tissue, it will get thrown in the bin and you will end up sifting through the communal bins for your building.

They're not painful as such, just sensitive I think from the tightness.
So probably by the time I return to work (high school teacher so who knows) ill be alright tucking in to a sandwich then.
I'm very excited about the process, I'm in my 40s and have never smiled in a photo with my teeth on display Shock

I had a metal brace and every time it was adjusted I found it hard to eat for a day or two. I found that porridge, bread dipped in soup, omelettes and yogurt kept me going. I did try meal replacement shakes but they are very sweet and not filling. Better off with a glass of milk.

I didn’t experience anything like this. Bit of soreness the very first few days but nothing past that and I had 12 attachments (taking it that’s what you mean by “clips”).

For sores in your mouth try “iglu” gel. For any toothache pain, ibuprofen. I didn’t need any of this though.

It didn’t affect my eating at all (and I didn’t lose weight Blush). 20 - 22 hours a day is fine for wearing. Make sure you have a travel toothbrush with you and careful if you are a lipstick wearing lol, I’m a lecturer and I think my retainers wore more of my lipstick than my lips in those early lectures!

I’ve honestly just ate as normal. Sandwiches, wraps, pasta salads etc should be fine. Never any need for soups etc. Would agree that if it’s that unbearable, you need to see the orthodontist again and ask for help.

I think it's prob just the first few days feeling then, it is definitely easier than it was on Tues when I got them!
I've got a lovely little toothbrush kit to take out with me, but we're tier 4 so other than the supermarket, I'm not exactly going anywhere 😂
Looking forward to my Indian takeaway tonight

I meant for your eventual return to work. My kit was a Godsend when I was teaching.

I just ate as normal 🤷🏻‍♀️. Started off brushing after every meal, but as months went by, I just rinsed well with water lol.

Oh yes, definitely will need that at work!

Having just had my breakfast, I think the problem is that I'm coming down with a sore throat and that's why I'm struggling 😩

They're always tight for the first few days and you will definitely get used to them. Do be careful to clean your teeth and mouth really well after Indian food - the colouring / turmeric in curry can stay in your saliva and stain the trays yellow! :)

Yes, I was also advised to avoid curry for the first ten days due to the turmeric staining the attachments... sorry Blush
