Can anyone help me work my money out?

Heya, so currently I'm living at home with my newborn but over the very merry holidays there was a little bit of a family fight which makes me think I should be looking for my own place. I get paid £548.55 a month for me and the baby, can anyone help me figure out the cost of bills and if it's actually possible to have a baby and rent a house. Nothing has been mentioned yet about us moving out but I want to get in first. Thanks for any advice

Hey, where abouts are you based, this will have an impact on base living expenses :)

are you part time?

Look at entitledto.co.uk to see what benefits you would get living on your own, are you able to access social/counsel housing? I think you should be getting stat maternity pay, child benefit and child support from the babies daddy but you might get universal credit help towards housing and council tax.

You could also look into working or starting a small business, e.g it only costs a couple of hundred to train to do Shellac nails, spray tans, Russian eye lashes.

North East UK
No I'm not working at the moment I'm on Universal credit.
I'm hoping to get a council house but worried about all the extra bills, I'm hoping to give myself six months to get used to my little girl and then start looking into starting my own business somwhow.

Do you have savings OP? Setting up a business can be costly and time consuming. You might be better off looking for a job to start with but of course that will depend on what childcare is available to you.
Unless you’re high priority on the council list which it sounds like you’re not as you’re living with family, you may be better off looking at private rentals instead. Definitely start by working out what you’d be entitled to if you moved out first and then you can start investigating how much rent would be in your area and bills etc

Zoopla, has a good feature where it provides estimates for bills, so if you look at places local to where you may be placed in council housing it may give you a starting place. Have you looked at becoming a rep for body shop/Avon as a starting point? Or usborne books is another which a few friends on maternity have joined as it works quite well with going to baby groups, nurseries etc

Another potential could be spareroom.com, as often some private rentals are put on there instead of through agencies
