Dolls

I’m a first time mum with a 15 month old daughter, and she has a few baby dolls with plastic heads and soft bodies, I just wanted to know, what is the best way to clean them when they get covered in food and dirt? Can you put them in the washing machine? I’m worried I’ll ruin them but they definitely need a wash.

I turn it into a play activity - full a plastic tub or baby bath with warm, soapy water and let her give the babies a bath, then give them a good squeeze out and let them dry on a radiator.

Haha that’s a good idea, thanks, I’ll give it a try. I’m worried they might be past that stage though, they’re pretty gross. One of them is really stained, might try one in the washing machine on a low heat wash and see how it goes.

Diluted fair washing up liquid in warm water.

Would just washing with fairy liquid and water, clean the clothes? Do you just sponge them down?

We've washed (bathed) one like that with washing up liquid in a baby bath and it came up fine. I would give it a go and if it still looks mucky you could do a gentle machine wash, maybe tie it up in a pillowcase if it's one of those with beads in the body stuffing.

That’s brilliant, thank you, I’ll do this, hopefully it’ll come up like new, everyone keeps telling me to keep her dolls away when eating but she’s obsessed with them, she carries them around all day. All her toys get a bit grubby, think I’ll try giving them all a bath haha, I’ll get her to help me, it does sound like a fun activity.

My soft bodied cabbage patch kids go in the wash.

Yeah we have 2 of those, what settings do you use on the washing machine? Do they keep their nice smell? They kind of smell like caramel or something sweet.

@Finishwhatyoustarted they are almost 30 years old some of them so lost their smell years ago. I just put them in a pillowcase and they went on delicate cycle. Jysmt maje sure they properly dry out
