Does anyone have tinnitus?

I 'acquired' tinnitus about three months ago. Unsure of cause, different noises in each ear and a general head noise. I'm struggling with my 'new normal' (sorry, hate that phrase) I've read it can improve/you can get used to it so you don't hear it so much anymore. Can't imagine me getting to that point. Getting sick of it being the first thing I hear or think about when I wake up to it being the last thing I think about. It's affecting my life big time but I don't want it to. I worry it will get worse.

@Thisischocolate thanks for your reply. I do have some TMJ disorder symptoms, mainly due to jaw clenching but I've been addressing this and it very gradually seems to be improving. How long did it take you roughly to re-train your brain? Did you do anything in particular? I'm worried it's not going to happen for me - I have so many different noises that seem to fluctuate throughout the day. Can't imagine adjusting to think it as normal.

'Colours of noise' isnt a continuous fuzzy sound. White noise isnt helpful for tinnitus, people are creating music files that help retrain your brain.
For it to work you have to find out which frequencies you have a problem with, and pick the right 'colour' of music.

Listening to tailor-made notched music reduces tinnitus loudness and tinnitus-related auditory cortex activity

I had it for years before I realised the ringing, buzzing noise wasn't really there. I don't know what I thought it was. I haven't been to the doctor because, as far as I'm aware, there is nothing they can do.

No, nothing they can do. Just a matter of coping with it/learning how to live with it. Sounds like you've done that well so far @CaptainMyCaptain!

Mine comes and goes, and is worse if my sinus's are playing up. I can't remember not having it. It was there during my childhood, I think as a result of a nasty bout of measles.
It was normal for me to hear a ringing or the noise of car engines.
As far as I am aware there is nothing you can do to stop it. Mine improves during the summer months. I always have the radio or TV on it helps me.
You do get used to it OP
