Why can't I get my asthma sorted?!

Had an asthma attack on Sunday night, was given iv steroids, 3 nebulisers, a new inhaler (fostair) to take 2 x 3 x a day which is actually 2 puffs over the max dose for a week or so then back to 2 puffs 2 x a day. I've got oral steroids for 1 week, and was given a volumatic inhaler.

My upper chest hurts so so much when I breathe in around the sternum, I cough if I'm walking around, if I go up or downstairs I need to sit down afterwards because im out of breath and have a coughing fit.

It's a non productive cough and the GP knows how I'm doing but omg the chest pain on breathing is awful!

I've had 2 covid tests now and they were negative.

Do I ring the gp back and ask to actually be seen? Or do I give it another couple of days?

Maybe antibiotics? Could be a chest infection.

Hey, I'm not a doctor though! Just have asthmatics in the family.

I think that probably is the way to go tbh, I'm just going to call them when they open

The way you described the pain sounds like there could be some plurasy in there too?

I agree with pp it sound like you probably need some antibiotics and maybe even a chest x ray

Have they suggested an oral medicine? My husband was using beclometasone for years, and had regular chest infections. They put him on Montelukast tablets, and he hardly even needs to use a reliever inhaler.

I agree it sounds like pleurisy, definitely call your GP again and tell them about the chest pain. As above, the thing that got my asthma completely under control was montelukast, it's just one tablet before bed and made so much difference.
