Can I freeze leftover takeaway curry, rice and naan?

in its original packaging?

Last night's dinner..won't get a chance to have it tonight or tomorrow. Curry is in plastic tub, rice in foil with cardboard lid and naan in white bag lined with foil.

Can I bung it all in freezer?

How long has it all been at room temperature? Rice is the biggest risk.

iluvnettletea · 30/12/2020 07:15

Yes

But it's the law to have leftovers for breakfast?

I wish Juney but I'm in work today and am already paranoid I have curry oozing from my pores despite a shower and a tonne of deodorant!

Was amazing curry..don't want it to go to waste.

I do this all the time, apart from the rice.

Although if you chill & freeze the rice quickly it’s most likely to be fine, I still can’t bring myself to do this thanks to the microbiologist at the public analyst’s lab where I worked in the 1980s. Grin

Chuck the rice. I would happily freeze the rest. There is a nasty food poisoning associated with rice - spores develop if it’s not cooled & chilled quickly enough which release toxins that make you very sick. The toxins are then in the food, so it doesn’t matter what temperature you reheat the rice to, you won’t be able to kill them ( everyone always seems to think that “nuking” reheats is the answer- with bacillus cereus that doesn’t work).

IRememberMySpaceBabe · 30/12/2020 07:25

Has it been in the fridge so far? If so I would, but not the rice.

gretagreengrapes · 30/12/2020 07:45

I would, including the rice. There are plenty of ready meals in supermarkets with rice in them for weeks! I just make sure it's all piping hot before eating it.

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 30/12/2020 07:50

I've put it all in. Thanks everyone.

I'm aware of the rice thing but have spent my entire life eating Indian/Chinese rice that's sat out on counters overnight or been stored/reheated against the "rules" and have survived thus far so will continue!

The rice is roasted garlic and it's just too good to chuck!

gretagreengrapes yes there are plenty of supermarket ready meals that include rice, but the rice will have been cooled/ chilled super fast in a blast freezer.

Oh well you must be immune to food poisoning then OPHmm In which case, why ask in the first place?

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 30/12/2020 07:55

My original query was actually to do with the packaging that the items were in being suitable for freezing Daisy and made no mention of food safety but Hmm away!

How bizarre!

userxx · 30/12/2020 08:01

I've always eaten reheated rice, never had a problem.

ChristmasUserName2020 · 30/12/2020 10:47

I always eat reheated rice, it’s only ever on here I see the pearl clutching about it 😂

Xerochrysum · 30/12/2020 10:52

I grew up in regular rice eating country. I have frozen and reheated rice all my life. Never had problem. Never heard any precautions about eating reheated rice. I only learned the danger in eating reheated rice when I came to UK, which I totally ignored.

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 30/12/2020 10:55

So it isn't just me and my iron gut then 😆
