I would really like to make some dinosaur bones like those in the picture. Please can a clever Mnetter help me to work out how to make them. I think i've found the right mould, but can't work out what to use in it to create the desired bones.

Plaster of paris

@HavelockVetinari

Plaster of paris
How would that work? Would it not stick to the plastic?

The link you posted say they are for sand so yes, plaster of Paris would probably stick to them, but plaster of Paris was going to be my suggestion before I clicked the link.

Press the models into some sand that is well compacted to make Dino shaped holes and then fill the holes with plaster of Paris?

Crowsandshivers · 29/12/2020 19:43

Salt dough 🙂 I've done it myself for my class a few times.

Crowsandshivers · 29/12/2020 19:44

Oh sorry... just seen your have a mould already. Mod roc or that concrete mix stuff.

Salt dough was my first thought, and would be super easy as I have all the ingrediants. However, i've never used it in mould like this before, only ever to cut out shapes or make freehand designs. Would it come out of the mould?

Haha cross posts. I would love it if salt dough was an option, bloody love the stuff. Grin Not heard of mod roc so will definitely check that out.

Can't you just coat the mould in vaseline to stop the plaster of Paris sticking?
I'm sure plaster of Paris is your best bet.

Oww does that work? Shock How much vaseline?

Spray it with mould release agent. That'll do it.

Oww i've never heard of this, do you have any recommendations?

Vaseline, I'd have thought you could just get a bit on your finger and coat the mould.

Mould release agent, it's basically a waxy liquid in an aerosol spray can, try Amazon? I think lots of suppliers will be closed for Covid.
