Regular boiler to combi ?

Does anyone recommend?
We need space .. adult son has had to move back home , he’s literally in a bed in a closet , we need to take out the regular boiler to make space and DH has ideas of creating this space by getting a combi boiler which is apparently smaller ( I don’t know about boilers ) and putting the combi in the downstairs loo
Do you recommend combi ones over regular boilers ?

@TornadoOfSouls

yankeedoodledandee if you have an immersion heater you can still get hot water. I can cope without heating for a while but not without hot water!

But if it breaks? Surely once it's run out it's run out?

When our boiler broke a few years back we waited over a week for the replacement- a tank of hot water wouldn't last anyone that long anyway?

If the boiler breaks you just use the electric immersion heater to heat the water instead.

We turn our boiler off in the summer and just use the immersion heater as it works out cheaper.

We’ve changed from regular to combi boiler in both our previous (3 bed 1 bath) and current (4 bed 2 bath) house and have never regretted it for a moment - love the unlimited supply at any time, and that no water is ever heated but not used. The boilers are about the same size, but space is gained by losing the hot water cylinder and water tank in the loft. The one drawback is that if you run a tap when someone is in the shower, they do notice a pressure drop and temperature variation - but we find this easy enough to work around. Interestingly our plumber was initially reluctant about the change, then went on advanced course with Vaillant and came back a convert.

We had our regular boiler replaced with a combi, and moved to our kitchen - this allowed us to get rid of the hot water tank and knock out the airing cupboard and make the third bedroom bigger.

We love it - hot water on demand. Previously, if all four of us wanted to have a shower of a morning, we'd have to use the emersion. We do take care not to run the tap when someone is in the shower but I don't consider that a hardship. No issues with baths since we don't have one.

It's also proved much more economical for us (according to my husband, anyway).

I've lived in a few houses with combi boilers and they are a pet hate.

Ah ok, my misunderstanding Blush

Previous house had combi and poor water pressure. So fillin the kettle left anyone in the shower with a cold soak. I suspec5 we could have solved thar with a pump for the shower or an electric one.

Also it took forever to fill the bath.

We put a megaflo in the new house, where the pressure is really high. Haven’t run out of water yet, 2 bathrooms and 4 bed house. We had to take out 3rd loo to house tank. But we are getting a loo put in downstairs.

There’s an immersion if we don’t want to use boiler.

I’m not sure most combis are up to a big house with multiple users.

My shower is electric so totally unaffected by people filling the kettle. We have a shower bath tap too which I occasionally use for washing my hair which does run off the boiler, but it's no hardship for anyone to wait 5 mins to run a tap
