Is there anyone else who simply doesn't feel that this 'break' has been restful?

I finished work on Friday 18th and am going back on the 4th Jan.

It took until Weds 23rd for my eyelids to stop twitching. It took until the 26th for my bad dreams and restless sleep to stop.

And now this week I'm so concerned about potential lockdown, increased tiers, what will happen to schools, and the effect of that on our family and my job that I feel really stressed out.

Anyone else?

Totally.

Frownette · 28/12/2020 22:42

Yes it's been stressful

SatsumaFan · 28/12/2020 22:45

Totally with you. Broke up on 18th and go back on 4th too. Nothing to do with the children and no motivation either. Just keep worrying about what's going to happen next and am dreading January and more lockdown shit.

DelurkingAJ · 28/12/2020 22:47

DSs are going up the walls (despite a long, long walk every day). They miss their friends and grandparents. It’s also cold and wet and muddy and I’d kill for the blooming trampoline park to be open so at least they we’re fully physically exhausted. Argh!

IdblowJonSnow · 28/12/2020 22:48

Yanbu. It's hard. Try to take it one day at a time.
I find this time of year stressy (and January slightly depressing anyway) even without covid.

Poppet1974 · 28/12/2020 22:51

Was really looking forward to the break but it’s been stressful and shit really..... just watching the news now and am worried about the surge in the numbers. When will I get a bloody rest😡

DorothyCotton · 28/12/2020 22:52

Yep, abusive STBX, police, solicitors, lockdown lite, new town, missing my friends so much, DS 3 missing all his friends and activities, too much mud, washing machine fire, proper Lockdown looming, need I go on..... Sad

whatswithtodaytoday · 28/12/2020 22:54

Not restful in the slightest. I've been trying to get ahead with work so that when nurseries don't go back next week I'm not trying to catch up from two weeks off work plus parenting a toddler.

QueenPawPaws · 28/12/2020 22:55

I've had 5 days off and it feels like nothing
Finished on the 23rd, back in tomorrow

SarahAndQuack · 28/12/2020 22:58

Yes, it's stressful. My DP and I finished on a half day on Christmas Eve and DP is going back tomorrow. I am too, but with toddler DD at home, because nursery doesn't open for a few days. So yet again I am meant to be working while looking after her. I've also been working for a few hours each day because I just cannot get it all done in the time we're meant to be 'at work,' because I lost so much time already, either because I've had DD at home or because work takes ten times as long without access to a proper working environment.

Add to that the stress you mention ... yes. My job was temporary until next September and I felt really hopeful when I got it in October 2019. I thought there would be more jobs out there. Now my sector has frozen and all I hear about are redundancies.

I'm coping but I am really frightened about the future.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/12/2020 22:59

Well yes, it's a pandemic Confused

Most people have not been away on holiday all year, have used barely any of their holiday allowance, their kids haven't had full access to childcare or education or any activities, extra caring responsibilities..

Plus obviously all the death and that precariousness of life shit

It would be weird if ANYONE was well rested Grin

I work in mental health and usually I'm chilled as fuck - I've had 4 days off and I'm still grumpy and tired - this has never happened before, ever.

Sittinginmyoodie · 28/12/2020 23:03

Yup it's been a bit shit.

I was saying this to DH earlier today. It's been cold and miserable here today. It was the kind of day we would visit relatives or go to the cinema. I really miss all of that. I haven't felt like things were hard for a while, but today they felt hard.

My DC are off school until 18th Jan. I just pray they go back then. I really can't face another six months of home schooling and WFH again.

@LaurieFairyCake, I do get where you're coming from and I do feel a bit the same.

But I think we're encouraged to believe we should feel rested? I'm religious and I nearly shouted at the zoom church service when some nice well-meaning person suggested we give thanks for 'extra time with family and the new slower pace of life'.

You don't have to look far to find articles in the media that make out we've all been lazing around on furlough enjoying communing with nature or riding out bikes that bit more.

I can see why people feel really stressed about feeling stressed.

Jessicabrassica · 28/12/2020 23:05

Yes. Totally exhausted from work. No less tired than when I finished at the end of term. Still waking at 4/5am. Relaxed enough that after 4 days the nightmares started again. I'm actually not sure how I'm going to survive this. Cried at a friend today. But I've cried pretty much every day for the last week. And I know this is the high point. It's downhill from here to Easter. I'm going into this term stressed and exhausted.

chocafrolic · 28/12/2020 23:12

Yep work in a school, started to feel ill at end of term so spent first week of holiday feeling like crap but getting everything ready for Christmas. Got through it but now tested positive for covid. Bosses response? At least your self isolation will be over so you can come back to work next week. 😭

VenusTiger · 28/12/2020 23:17

Yes, it's a shower of shit OP - especially when you take to ONS and NHS websites to look at the triage data, the 111 data, hospital admissions etc. for infections (not cases) and see that the "news" is at it again with their BS lying!! It's a disgrace and we don't need this stress.
Hope you can get out for a few walks and leave your TV off - we haven't even switched ours on since 23 December! Been lovely (I don't actually watch terrestrial TV at all).

VenusTiger · 28/12/2020 23:20

On a positive note, we have lots of snow OP - it's beautiful and makes you realise how lucky we are - if that makes sense. The simple things.

The snow this morning is indeed lovely! I hope it sticks once the day gets going

I cannot remember the last time I felt relaxed and chilled out. I have forgotten how to just be...I used to be able to switch off but it is like a block now.Its odd!

Jennygentle · 29/12/2020 09:49

Agree. My raging insomnia has eased, which is great (I was struggling on 4 hours broken sleep) but I’m still massively anxious about this term and worried about DS.

user1493413286 · 29/12/2020 09:53

Completely; trying to entertain 2 children without being able to see anyone or go anywhere and worrying about what next week has in store for us is stressing me out.

17bluebirds · 29/12/2020 11:24

Totally the opposite, I'm bored out of my brain and can't wait to get back to work.
I finished at 2pm on 24th, dont go back till 4th.

I've had a lovely few days with my DC, but in tier 4 there is nothing to do, there are only so many board games I can play and so much tv I can stomach.
I'd be happy to relax for longer if there was things to do and places to go, but I am far from stressed and longing for something to do.

LittleFir · 31/12/2020 18:09

Well it has got worse and worse for me. Crying at the drop of a hat yesterday and now dreading returning to work next week and frankly dreading 2021 as there's every sign this shite is going to continue for months.

I've found that this break has flown in, I've been sleeping better and feeling more relaxed. Looking forward to going back to work next week and just found out today I have no job to go back to! I'm gutted. Only been there a few months and due to covid they have made cutbacks. Gutted and stressed to the max .😥😥😥
