When did your DC have their first tantrum?

DD threw her first tantrum today. Stamping her feet, screaming and shaking her fists. All because I told her to stop playing and go to the bathroom for her bath.

Wanna guess how old she is? Grin

If she's old enough to go to the bathroom herself you've done wel Grin mine were probably 1 when they had their first horrendous tantrum, the kind where you go "WTF"

ImHereForTheEntertainment · 28/12/2020 20:59

My 11m old. Threw one today as he'd got hold of my phone. It was a proper head back and scream. Rolled onto his belly dramatically and put his head to the floor between his hands. Kept lifting his head to rage then back down.

Ds was about 14 months when he had his first throw himself on the floor kick and scream tantrum because I wouldn't buy him a rubber spider. A couple of people actually gathered round which was really encouraging and helpful 🤦‍♀️

That's the silly thing- she can only walk if she has a hand to hold so she doesn't have a great deal of say in where she goes anyway!

Ds was 11 months when he first started and by 16 months they were proper, head banging, clawing his own eyes out tantrums, where nothing would stop him and they went on forever Confused These last until he was at least 4.

DD on the other hand started around 20 months and were over in less than a minute and even now at 2 I can cuddle the tantrum away...long may it continue that way! Wink

whereisthejoy · 28/12/2020 21:04

We are 27 months in and have had a few strops but not sure a full scale tantrum yet! How old is your DC? 2.5?

Neolara · 28/12/2020 21:07

One of my DC's started with tantrums at 9 months. Proper throw himself on the floor and refuse to be consoled no matter what. Fortunately he passed threw that stage relatively quickly and he didn't really tantrum as a 2 or 3 year old at all. My other DCs started tantruming much later but kept them up for much, much longer.

ShinyGreenElephant · 28/12/2020 21:12

DD11 has never had one, I thought it was my amazing parenting until DD2 came along and proved that idea to be bollocks! DD2 started around 15-16 months with the occasional one, now shes 2 they happen at least every other day and can be quite spectacular

splishsplashsploosh · 28/12/2020 21:16

Mine was 3. We thought we'd got away with it and then we told him 'no' to going on one of those Thomas rides at the entrance to a big supermarket. Big mistake!

sqirrelfriends · 28/12/2020 21:19

About 11 months for DS. I can't remember the first one, we have at least 5 a day at 2.5.

Thistledew · 28/12/2020 21:23

DS didn't really tantrum until he was nearly 3. Even then he had occasional and epic ones, but not all that often.

Mine was 9 months, send wine.

NoJetter · 28/12/2020 22:10

Ds1 had them since he was about 10 months. He’s 3.5 and no sign of them relenting. I’m ok I have Wine ds2 has just turned 2 and he has now started to have them. He was such a chilled baby I’m struggling not to laugh at him at the moment. Although now I have a terrible 2 and a three nager at the same time I may need more Wine

Thistledew · 28/12/2020 22:17

DD is 8 months!

It was honestly the cutest and most ridiculous thing you have seen. She can't walk without a hand or two to hold, but has already decided that any passing adult is just there to facilitate her going exploring exactly where she wants. And it seems that she is prepared to throw a strop if we do not oblige! To be fair it was all over in about a minute but if it's a sign of what is to come, heaven help me.

DS1 was 10m when he realised that "no" meant that he wasn't getting his own way. Proper look at you, cry, then headbang the floor.
Clever kid, he quickly realised that carpet, you could go full welly, laminate, hitvgently, and tiles, dramatically fling your head to an inch off the ground and then gingerly tap the last inch.

He was a pro...at 7 it was GP time and he got his ASD diagnosis at 9.

If only I'd known through the toddler years...

DS2 rarely tantrummed thank goodness!

Ohalrightthen · 28/12/2020 22:44

At about 10m, i took the TV remote off DD, who was chewing on it, and she went BALLISTIC. rolling around on the floor shrieking, then lay face down on the carpet and sobbed.

I did a lot of back-patting and "oh dear"ing while trying desperately not to laugh.
