Really stupid question about politics

What is it that Michael gove does? I've seen his title but don't know what it means! And why is he talking about education (I know he's a former education minister but he's not the only one) when Williamson should be doing that?

@LarkDescending

He didn’t say the schools will stay open. He said he “hopes” they will. “The plan” is still for them to stay open. So presumably if/when they don’t stay open he and the PM can point the finger at Gav/headteachers/Joe Public.
Good observation.

Yup. Definitely wiggle room then.

@NataliaOsipova so would I have preferred Michael Gove to Boris Johnson as PM. I think if he had been, the March restrictions would have come about earlier and likewise those in the autumn too, and perhaps 10,000 fewer people would have died.

I guess Gove isn't scared of being unpopular (I'm a teacher, I know this from bitter experience Grin). Unpopularity is Johnson's kryptonite.

Agreed, @MoodyMarshall - and a need to be universally liked is an enormous Achilles heel for a leader. And never more so than at the moment....
