Freaking out

Went to the gp a couple of weeks ago as I'd had some bleeding after sex. She wasn't particularly worried as I'm up to date with my smears and all have been cleared, and all looked fine when she examined me except for a small cervical ectropian. But she knows I get anxiety so said she would refer me for a colposcopy. I assumed this would take ages (she implied it would too) but I've just had my letter through and appointment is 6 January! I'm kind of freaking out that the fact it is so soon means she was worried it is worse than she said it was and she just didn't tell me??? I figured especially at the moment it would take ages to be seen!

I should mention due to mid cycle bleeding I also had a transvaginal scan about 18 months ago and that was fine too.

DD has recently been referred for a scan and my GP told me to expect the appointment through fairly quickly as they get a large number of cancellations due to people self-isolating/shielding/deciding not to attend because they think its risky. He was right, she got referred the week before last and I already have her appointment for the beginning of January.

Cervical erosion is a very common cause of post-sex bleeding, I had it in pregnancy and it went away on its own with no problems since. On the positive side, your GP is being thorough and having it checked out which is a good thing. I know it can be a hugh anxiety trigger but try not to worry, from the sounds of things its unlikely to be anything serious and IF it was then at least its going to be picked up and can be acted upon.

I'm also worried about catching covid in hospital as I'm a carer for my mum who is CV!

I had surgery during the pandemic so was in for a pre-op appointment, a covid test appointment, the surgery and a 48hr stay, then a follow-up appointment and didn't catch it. I've also had several appointments with the DC for various things. Each visit I've felt very safe the whole time I was there. During my op attendance the staff explained that each ward/department is basically a bubble with the staff only working within that bubble, and they get tested daily (might differ at some trusts?). The hospital where I am has washing stations at the doors, everyone has to clean their hands on entering and leaving the building, they also have a mask station at the door where you have to remove the mask you arrived in and put on a fresh one. At the entrance to every clinic/ward there are temperature checks and a HCA running through a symptoms checklist, the waiting rooms are socially distanced, rooms are cleaning in between patients, and appointments are staggered to control how many people are there at a time. The hospital does have covid patients but they're in a separate area and use separate entrances.
