Postpartum bowel issues

I am 9 weeks postpartum and suffering with bowel urgency and loose stools. I only get a few minutes notice before I need to go and it’s watery when I do go. I’m scared to leave the house in case I have an accident. I’ve seen a physio and she thinks it may be related to my pelvic floor. I was just wondering if anybody else has had similar and how long it took to resolve.

I had this. Gradually improved until I realized one day I no longer thought about it .... About 6-8 months I think? It was terrible for first couple of months.... Less than 1 minute warning to get to loo... I think it was linked to pelvic floor- I was at physio until around 10 months. luckily I was regular and only went once a day so would not leave the house until I had my daily bowel movement.

Yes had this. Hasn't fully resolved. Was better after 6 months with a physio though. I still have urgency though and have had accidents, not as frequent since my physio.

I have to be careful with my diet and massively limit fibre.

I had this. Turned out it was my bloody breastfeeding vitamins. The minute I stopped, all back to normal! Just in case x

Thank you. I’m really worrying about it. Just lucky that there’s nowhere to go at the moment 🙈

Are you getting any cramping? Do you notice it gets worse with certain foods? It sounds like pelvic floor issues but it would be IBS. I have developed this after my second daughter who is now 8 weeks. Bloody nightmare I cant eat the foods I ate before.

I suffer with chronic IBS anyway and have done since I was 20, but this feels different. It feels like it’s something mechanical almost. It’s hard to explain. With my IBS, my tummy is grumbly all the time, but I’m not getting that with this. It doesn’t matter what I eat. It’s very frustrating x

Sorry you're going through this. I was also really worried and convinced it would never improve, but it really did... I think it just takes time for the muscles / nerves to regain their strength.

Thank you for the reassurance. It’s good to hear from others that symptoms can improve. There’s not a lot on the net about bowel urgency.
