Hello Smile what a lovely present for your dc... How about setting it up in another room and putting a big ribbon bow around it?

Yukay · 27/12/2020 05:47

How old are they? If they're teens they might enjoy setting it up themselves.

AlwaysCheddar · 27/12/2020 08:22

Wrap them up!!!

DS12 got a laptop for Christmas. DH set it all up and installed his favourite games/apps (technophobe so not really sure what!). So it was all ready to go Christmas morning when he opened it.

Just an alternative view here, my DS would say that the unboxing is the best bit! He'd much rather have the "oooh" moment of opening it all up than having it set up. But if it was me, I'd much rather have it all put together!

Wrap the boxes.

DD got a pc for her birthday. She insisted on setting it up herself. If your DC is a term I would wrap the boxes

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 27/12/2020 10:32

It depends on how techy your DC is. If they enjoy the making of things generally then leave them in the boxes, if they get frustrated easily then set it up in advance so they can use it straight away.

britnay · 27/12/2020 10:32

Depends on how old they are and if they can set it up.

You may want to get it all set up first, get everything downloaded, installed and ready to use.
You could always put it back in a box afterwards?

EduCated · 27/12/2020 10:58

If they are of an age where they have specifically requested a desktop because they are reasonably techy (and a bit of a gamer?) then let them set it up, it’s part of the joy.

Flowersblue · 27/12/2020 12:24

They are 9

Set it up in another room so they can use it straightaway, but wrap the empty box.

EduCated · 27/12/2020 13:07

In that case I’d lean towards setting it up ready, or at least getting it all out, checking it and having it mostly ready to go.

This is what we did for Christmas. Set it all up and then put it back in the boxes.

Thanks

Set it up, perhaps wrap the mouse or the instruction book up.

kfh · 27/12/2020 17:40

I’d set it up before hand, ds got pc for Christmas and it was a nightmare to set up them we had to get an extender for the WiFi signal and takes ages to download windows, games and apps, we started a week before and was all ready for his new games by Christmas Day

vanillandhoney · 27/12/2020 17:45

I'd set it up for them - computers can take hours to install all the updates and everything.

BestOfABadLot · 27/12/2020 17:46

At 9 they won't be able to set it up so I'd do that for them to get through the long boring install stuff. If possible maybe do it in a separate room and wrap the screan after set up or put a big box over it so it can be a surprise.
