First winter in the UK: tactics

So, as I have said numerous times here, this is my first winter in the UK ( London). I have been doing ok so far, but it's been a bit miserable the last few days. What do you all do to get through it? Thanks to Style and Beauty, I have warm, waterproof clothes. I get out for a walk every day. Already read and cook a lot. Thinking of now buying some luxury bath salts, some good chocolate, and maybe adult coloring books to fill up my senses, so to speak.

You need a dog or cat! And lots of comfort food. Good TV and books.

We get through a tonne of candles. Sometimes we light them at breakfast and they stay lit all day but more usually we light them around 4pm. Lots of lamps. Lots of fairy lights. Most rooms in my house have to have at least 3 sources of warm light before it starts feeling cosy.

Also drinking too much, then do Dry January to atone, February everyone is still miserable and tries to get away for half term, March you start feeling human again!!

OP winter here is very much enhanced by eating and drinking the fruits of the summer. Sloe gin, Damson gin, jams and preserves; all the Christmas food is basically summer food preserved for the midwinter feast (and of course Christmas cake, pudding and mince pies ar all the same ingredients). Earlier in the autumn it was all about the pumpkin soup and harvest festival. After Christmas it's all about daffodils and spring bulbs and getting your seeds in.

You have to roll with it ;-(

Oh yes and a tonne of reading. I have been known to read a book a day on winter weekends.

I enjoy a jigsaw puzzle, great sense of achievement and can be shared with your daughter/partner if they want to do a bit.

I can't personally but would love to be able to knit-you can embrace next winter with woolly socks ready to wear etc.

Move away from south London would help. No one really lives there, they just reside there or exist.

In terms of getting out for fresh air/walking, make sure it includes the afternoon, not just the morning.

Find a radio station or two that you love. I'm a radio 4 and 6 music fan personally. Gets me through many hours.
