Old sprained ankle

In September 2019 I sprained my ankle really badly - I was on crutches for a few months. It’s been ok since about April. The GP didn’t think it needed anything except time, and this seemed to be the case. I did exercises to keep it stretched and mobile.
In the last couple of weeks, though, it’s been really painful under the heel every time I put weight on the foot. Has anyone had this? What is it, and will it just go away if I rest it and continue to do the exercises?
Thanks!

Oh, the other thing is that the old bruising is showing up again, both around the ankle and front top of the foot.

Mine does this every winter.
I’ve knackered both of them properly, multiple times over the years.

As soon as it goes colder, things start to ache. The bruising comes up slightly if I start wearing higher heels more often than normal (which in normal years would be around Christmas).

I doubt it’s normal. It’s worth getting looked at. I haven’t bothered though, because by the time I get round to sorting an appointment, it’s stopped hurting.

Under the heel sounds like plantar fasciitis. Not sure if it's related to the ankle, although I sprained an ankle and it took years before it stopped aching in cold/wet weather. A year isn't very long, and bad sprains take a long time to heal.

Was going to say plantar fasciitis, I’ve it, roll on a frozen bottle and stretches!

I had the same as you- a sprain that the hospital where I had it X- rated said it looked worse than some fractures...the following year, PF that almost crippled me. Literally. Had orthotic inserts and could only wear fitflop trainers and Skechers (which were AMAZING)
The PF lasted on and off about 6 months. Now, 2 years later I've got a weird buzzing sensation in that ankle that the GP thinks is nerve damage from the strain.
Who knew a bloody invisible step could cause so much hassle.
Hope yours clears up soon.

X rayed, Grin it wasn't sexy in the slightest.

Oh I didn’t think of PF! I will have a look - I think that fits.
Thanks so much to everyone for taking the time to reply! That’s really useful.
