The lion king

I'm watching the lion king and its enough to have me in tears.

I wish they would make the move again and rewrite the story to make the daddy lion live. It's so cruel when daddy lion dies and baby simba is made to run away carrying an awful burden.

Mufasa dying still haunts me now. It was so sad.

That’s the story though isn’t it - a reworking of the tragedy of Hamlet?

If the bad stuff stuff hadn’t happened he wouldn’t have met and befriended Pumba and Timone.

I just can't watch it, especially the bit where Simba picks up Mufasa's paw and makes him cuddle him. Ugh can't even think about it without feeling upset.

So many kids films are tragic like this. Don’t ever watch Brother Bear op, you’ll be an emotional wreck.

It’s hamlet!

But even if it wasn’t it would be a pretty dull story if musfasa lived. Baby lion lives with mummy and daddy isn’t scared of anything, grows up has Cubs of its own and maybe inherits the pride lands. Yeah no it wouldn’t work. The whole point is Simba has to return and reclaim the pride lands, that’s what gives simba the glory.

Also I think there’s two things here, for the very young it’s just not as upsetting to young children, they don’t actually get that musfasa is dead.

But also there is something about kids “liking” tragedy, they understand it’s part of the story it makes exciting, and it gives them a safe way of processing the emotions of fear and loss. I think if you ask a lot of people what the bit of a film that had the most affect on them is it won’t be something in an grown up film that’s mature emotion it’s the bit of the Disney/dreamworks film that’s tragic, bambi’s mum any one? I certainly remember sobbing my heart out on my step uncles shoulder watching the mob chasing after the beast in Beauty and the beast. I wasn’t scared I just didn’t want them to kill the beast.
It gives a fairly safe way of processing those emotions
