Bland ham

Any tips on how I can make my left over ham taste better tomorrow? I cooked it today, glazed it but it just tasted bland and of nothing really. Hoping to have it in a sandwich with soup at lunchtime and chips and egg for tea!

I discovered that it goes quite well with red currant jelly if you have any? Much tastier!

Put some punchy cheese in the sandwich with it? Or a chilli jam?

You could also rebake the ham with a mustard /maple glaze

Mango chutney.

I thought this was going to be a "help I can't taste anything" thread Grin

Some say that honey goes well with ham if that's your thing, but the first thing that came to mind was piccalilli if you have any.

Piccalilli or pickled red cabbage are my favourites with ham.

If you can be bothered/have supplies you could cover with brown sugar and puff pastry and bake. It’s basically the same result as ham in coke but with added pastry. It’s a Christmas tradition in this house and does well cold.

@skippetyskoo have you had Cumberland sauce? That is amazing on ham and nicer than just red currant jelly.

Op, Ham egg and chips is the food of the gods. I hope they're home made chips made in vegetable oil, proper 90's style!

As is often recommended on here, I did my ham in coke as opposed to just water this year and I literally couldn't tell the difference, in fact it may not have even been as nice as usual 🤔

Cheese, definitely! Or chop it and use it in a pasta sauce instead.

If you like sweet and salty combos, you should try this next time. Smoked gammon boneless joint, boiled in a bottle of cider and topped up with cloudy apple juice to cover, with a clove studded onion and bay leaves, for a couple of hours.

Then cut the skin off (I removed the netting holding the ham together and it pulled the skin off in one go!), diamond-score the fat with put a clove in each diamond, drizzle with honey, mustard powder and brown sugar and bake on 190c for 20 mins.

It’s delicious.
