Does anybody like liqueurs, e.g. Cointreau or Glayva ? How do you drink them ?

I'm not keen. I used to get a Drambuie forced on me by friends every NYE decades ago. I didn't even like the stuff so I don't know why I put up with it. I think my Mum used to like Drambuie and Grand Marnier and especially Tia Maria. My tastes are more basic - good French brandy and Scotch whisky. I quite like Irish whiskey.

BTW, it is my opinion that whisky liqueurs such as Southern Comfort are the Devil's work. Yuck!

I think most liqueurs taste best in a coffee or dessert.

No cocktail, it seems, is complete without some bloody cointreau. Bleugh.

Is it cherry brandy or kirsch or something similar used in Black Forest Gateau ?

I like : Drambuie, Blood Orange Cointreau, Brandy Cointreau and creme de menthe (which I'm sipping right now)

Oooh I like them with lots of ice

I loved Drambuie ,

Glayva not so much, it is tolerable when it's spent some time in the freezer

AnyFucker · 25/12/2020 17:05

I love them all.

Neat. Room temp. Just as it comes.

justchecking1 · 25/12/2020 17:08

Cointreau is nice in mulled wine 😊

I love Drambuie on ice but you can add lime and soda water to it to make a long drink.
I normally pour liqueurs over ice cream and sometimes add a shot of espresso like a boozy affrogato.
Try adding some Drambuie to some whisky to make a Rusty Nail. If I get given Baileys I usually add some rum or brandy. Basically I use them as mixers for proper alcohol.

Southern Comfort isn't a liqueur imo though, it's a sweetened whiskey and also the work of the devil. I haven't been able to look at it since a party in 1987 but that's a different story...

I like liqueurs if I like the base spirit - so I like Drambuie and Glayva and another couple. But I don't tend to have them in the house... it's end of night or after dinner drinks when I'm out. Apart from when MIL lived here in lockdown. I had a large drambuie every night then, because I didn't want to have a bottle of wine after she went to bed, but needed something to mark the end of another tortuous day.

Make cocktails!!! One of the best things about being a grown up for me is being able to have Midori, Chambord and Blue Bols at home for random cocktail making.

WildRosie · 25/12/2020 19:30

I know you can add Chambord or cassis to sparkling wine to give the flavour a kick. Isn't Blue Bols a bitter orange curacao that you use in a Blue Lagoon?

I hate them all, they taste far too sweet for me. I prefer a nice single malt or a posh gin.

The only exception is limoncello poured over ice cream or lemon sorbet.

MispyM · 25/12/2020 19:57

Cointreau jam is nice. 👍

Honeyroar · 25/12/2020 20:01

Cointreau goes amazingly well over ostrich steak! I used to fry the steak both sides and put a few glues of Cointreau in for the last minute or so, turning it a few times. Would possibly work with turkey or chicken breast too.

I make green Halloween cocktails mixing blue bols with orange juice

Warning: drinking a lot of blue bols turns your poo blue!

DfEisashambles · 25/12/2020 21:07

Chambord with Prosecco and a few raspberries is nice.
