DH's DM in hospital

Getting tests for a suspected blood clot. She's on the other side of the world. He is very worried and angry because he can't be with her. If he goes there he'll get a large quarantine fine.

I'm not being much use. Gave him a hug and said she's in the best place. Anyone else had this testing done, is there a good outcome usually?

Could do with a hand hold. What a shitty Christmas.

Yep had the testing, it's all sorted quite quickly! She will probably be given clexane and then blood thinners for 6 months - nothing anyone can do for you! Xx

Thanks mama that's good to know. A local woman sadly died of this when it was misdiagnosed recently, so knowing that my MIL is in hospital being looked after is comforting.

My mum had that and all the tests came back ok. So don’t panic yet and don’t travel yet as it may come to nothing if it turns out to be something else.

Friend's dad recently, was totally fine. Blood thinners and back to normal life.

Agree with youOP,she IS in the best place. I had a blood clot on my lung 2.5 years ago and was admitted to hospital. I was kept In overnight and given two blood thinning injections to break up the clot. I had a CT scan in the morning which showed that the clot had broken down. I was discharged with a prescription for blood thinning tablets, which I have had to stay on indefinitely as they couldn't find any underlying cause for the clot, such as being bed-bound after an operation,or travelling on a long-haul flight.

I’ve had several. Once they’ve identified it as a clot, it’s a piece of cake to treat it. The danger is mostly before the patient realises they’ve got it and just ignores the symptoms. If they’re treating it, she’ll be absolutely fine.

Thanks everyone for the reassuring words. Well my MIL called DH last night and announced that she'd gone home because the doctor had messed her around. She'd been told to go back the next morning but wasn't in pain anymore so has decided that she's not going to bother Shock They'd already said that she has a clot but they're not sure where and now she's like "I'm fine" and will go back to her GP instead if she starts feeling bad again?! Seems very risky to me, like a ticking time bomb.

She's a heavy smoker and this isn't the first time she's had to get tests for related conditions. But apparently her heart and lungs are good so nothing to worry about! Hmm
