What did you eat after a tooth extraction?

I have another thread about my bloody tooth but now it’s gone I’m panicking about getting dry socket and am really nervous about eating and drinking.
What sort of thing did you find ok to eat after an extraction?
I can start to gently rinse with salt water after 2pm today, and last night had a bit of mashed sweet potato but haven’t eaten anything yet today.
Was wondering if soft veg from Christmas dinner (potato, parsnip that kind of thing) would be ok. My sheet just says soft food so I’m presuming nothing chewy like turkey unfortunately as we have a crown for 8 and due to being in tier 4 now it’s only me and DH!

I had a top wisdom tooth out and just ate on the other side and all was fine. Just be really careful with your hole!

whataballbag · 25/12/2020 09:56

God I've just realised how that sounds... but I guess it's also true 😂

I just ate on the other side. I would avoid anything acidic like orange juice, my brain says salt would probably be good

Fish and chips, the same day. Just ate on the other side.

If you had it out yesterday then you will be fine to eat whatever you like to day (turkey will be fine). Same with drink

thewooster · 25/12/2020 10:19

Try to stick to soft foods for a few days, eat on the other side. You could have turkey, but chew it on the other side. I had a tooth out in October and gargled with salt water as advised and stuck to soft foods for a while.

Everything was fine, but I did eat something which knocked my socket and caused it to bleed and this was after 2 weeks - was horrified that it bled after 2 weeks and worried about dry socket. I gargled with salt water again for the next few days and took it easy and eventually it healed.

NOT RICE.

This is important. Learn from my mistake.

rorosemary · 25/12/2020 10:26

Scrambled rggs

Daisy829 · 25/12/2020 10:35

I just ate on the other side. The rinse with salt definitely helped mine. I’m 4 weeks on now &
Had no problems and can eat perfectly normally on the side with the gap. I have to be a bit careful with crisps as they can be a bit sharp but other than that all good. I was thinking last night about how glad I am I got the damn thing taken out. Hope you enjoy your Xmas dinner.

Flamingosarentreal · 25/12/2020 10:55

i agree- not rice! Ate curry and rice after mine and was a mistake as got a grain of rice stuck in the socket . very painful

violetgrey · 25/12/2020 13:47

Apple sauce, mashed bananas, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs. You could blend the vegetables to make them softer if you have a blender. I also cut out caffeine and alcohol for a few days on my dentist’s reccommendation.

Hoppinggreen · 25/12/2020 13:50

I also came on to say not rice

DishedUp · 25/12/2020 13:52

Eat whatever you want. Soft diet is for comfort more than anything, I would just avoid things like crisps or crusty bread. But christmas dinner will be fine.

You wont prevent a dry socket by not eating

DishedUp · 25/12/2020 13:52

I would ptobably avoid rice though Grin

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 25/12/2020 14:00

Warm scones with lots of butter, jam and clotted cream.

fizzyp0p · 25/12/2020 14:01

No rice, seeds popcorn
I lived on mash potatoes, soup and fruit juice for 3 days
I moved on to having toast and boiled eggs
Just nothing that can get stuck
After 7 days back to normal

Matchsticklady · 25/12/2020 14:06

Thank you! I’m so paranoid I keep checking the socket which is stupid as it looks different every day anyway and I have no idea what I’m looking for. Poor DH has seen the inside of my mouth more than he has ever cared to 😂

Hi attempted rice day three. Had been given a syringe to gently irrigate socket. I got 8 grains out. Grim!

Thelnebriati · 25/12/2020 16:35

My dentist says avoid anything like rice, peas or corn. I know they say soft foods only but if you do get dry socket soft foods that disintegrate easily will end up inside it.
Firm wet foods that you can swallow like a pill are much better ime.

Matchsticklady · 25/12/2020 17:46

Thank you! Really really hoping I don’t end up with dry socket.
It’s sunk a bit today and is looking a bit white, creamy and grainy so hoping it’s starting to heal
