When do you fill them?

OP posts:
LittleStepsDaily · 24/12/2020 21:03

Yep we do the 2 stocking trick also, and wait until theyre asleep. Although its annoying trying to do, if they wake early I tell them they can play with their stocking bits until a decent hour and then we go downstairs for presents anytime from 7 on. You can always say that if you go down too early then he mightnt have been yet, and snuggle them back in to bed to read or draw, age dependent obvs

Millie2013 · 24/12/2020 21:08

Santa is wise and has bought a duplicate stocking to swap over. I’ve also moved the stocking nearer to the door

(This is after last year when Santa was very nearly spotted 🙈)

InTheLongGrass · 24/12/2020 21:09

Yep, identical stocking here. So kids are at the end of the beds. Adults and cats stockings are in a heap by our bedroom door (visible to the kids), and I've just stuffed the 2 spares which are sitting on my bed ready for a switch. Then I'll stuff DHs and DCats. DH will do mine.

PontiacBandit · 24/12/2020 21:16

I really wish I'd done identical stockings but they have personalised ones from Grandma. They hang them on their bedroom door now with the door slightly open so I can spy when they're asleep and I can fill them. They can also spot them full in the morning.

midinthenight · 24/12/2020 21:30

About 10. Dc are 7 and 5. I go in and get the stocking, take it into my room to fill and then take it back. Saves all the rustling. Scared tonight though, feel like dd7 is going to catch me!

FluffyMcWuffy · 24/12/2020 21:32

Our children hang their's on their door handle, outside their door so very easy to fill on the way to bed and not create a noise in doing so! They do sleep with the door shut I should add, no idea what we will do if they want to ever sleep with it open!

BeeDavis · 24/12/2020 21:40

Wheh I was young we hung stockings at the end of our beds, I think my mum and dad would unhook them and fill them up! Heard my mum come in one year and knew she’d done it, was gutted 😂 used to always remember waking up in the night and being buzzing when my stocking was full!

Napqueen1234 · 24/12/2020 21:44

We hang them on the door knobs. Mind you they just have quite small ones so it’s ok :)

SallyCinnamon3009 · 24/12/2020 21:58

We've put it on the door handle outside the room so stuffed it now. He'll have to open the door to realise it's been filled meant we didn't need to risk waking him up

waitrosetrollydolly · 24/12/2020 22:02

We have duplicates all filled and good to go at silly o'clock before we go to bed !! We just swap them over quietly in one swift visit .

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 24/12/2020 22:04

One year dd woke up and found her stocking before ds went to sleep!

Suzi888 · 24/12/2020 22:10

Right now Xmas Grin

Haybo26 · 24/12/2020 22:16

My son is 14. I sneaked pressies in his this afternoon...he hasnt realised! I did the same last year too.

Nicpem1982 · 24/12/2020 22:22

I wake up at 5am and pop it in dds room. Then I have a lovely cup of tea and wait.....

MissPinkCakeyBun · 24/12/2020 22:22

Duplicate stockings are what I've used for 28 years. My gran told me the trick and it works a treat

Thank me next year ladies when your stockings are stuffed a week before Christmas and it's one less this to worry about on Christmas Eve

Jody21 · 24/12/2020 22:23

When mine were younger I'd wait until they fell asleep, take it into my room to fill and sneak it back to their rooms. Heavy sleepers here so didn't really worry about waking them up. Changed to hanging them up in the living room after my youngest confided that he didn't like the thought of a strange man creeping about our bedrooms while we slept! He is a teenager now so past believing and we joke about it now, but he told me recently that it used to make him quite anxious when he was little. He has always had a fear of our house being broken into and robbed. Don't know why because nothing like that ever happens around here!

bluebluezoo · 24/12/2020 22:25

Why would you hang them up in bedrooms? Talk about making life difficult for yourself!

I struggle with the tooth fairy pound coin swap!

Hang them downstairs and save the trouble..

Ellieboolou33 · 24/12/2020 22:36

I take the stockings a few days before Christmas and tell the kids Father Christmas has collected them to fill, he returns them Christmas night. (Only if they go to sleep).

Ltdannygreen · 24/12/2020 22:38

In about an hour to make sure they are both in a deep sleep. They are proper deep sleepers thank god. 🙏🏼

DelurkingAJ · 24/12/2020 22:45

All done here. DSs sleep like logs once they are asleep (unless they wake at 2am...looking at DS2). If he does that we’ve agreed to persuade him that 6am is stocking time. They’re both clear that FC comes at midnight so if stockings weren’t full at 2am we’d have more trouble than a premature start to Xmas Day!

HullBrian · 24/12/2020 22:53

I set an alarm for around 5am, then go back to bed for an hour when I’ve done it.

Pyjamaface · 24/12/2020 23:00

I've just done it on my way to bed. DS is an appalling sleeper but, presumably I was a ninja in a previous life because I've never woken him.

He wakes up anytime between midnight and 5am so couldn't risk leaving it til morning

Unfairestofthemall · 24/12/2020 23:04

They leave them in the living room so that it's easier for Santa. I also wrap the living room door afterwards so they don't go in without us. That way they have to wait. They don't normally get up until 6

FestiveFannyGallops · 24/12/2020 23:12

I never realised just how much my stairs creak until tonight! I've been up and down so many times tonight and praying I don't wake any of them. They have rooms on different floors so it makes it trickier. Dds' doors are closed and I've no idea if they are asleep to sneak their stockings off their doors. I had a pillowcase in my bed until I left home in my twenties and never woke up but ds is tricky because he wakes up every night without fail and comes up to me. I've been training him for weeks ready for tonight but I've not had much luck at all. My mum is sharing my rooM tonight though so he knows he can't come up. That might not make any difference though 😩
I don't know how anyone does it drunk! Is make so much noise!

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 24/12/2020 23:18

They hang their stocking on the cabinet downstairs and father Christmas tills them and puts them by their bedroom door so he can fill them downstairs and just dump and run when they're full.
I don't mind what time they open them, they usually do that together in their rooms, gives us a bit longer in bed.
They're getting older now (11+12) and are trying to catch me out so I'm waiting up.
